Happy one year anniversary of If Pretty Hurts!!🥹🥹❤️ Directing and closing this show was honestly such a whirlwind that I never got the chance to sit down and document the journey on here. When I first discovered the script and asked the gorg + talented Meg Ruoro to co-direct it with me, I never thought it would have become the huge community event that it did. We sold almost 800 tickets across four performances, breaking a Dramat post-pandemic ticket sale record, so not too bad for both of our directorial debuts.

The majority of our cast and production team were Black, first-time theater-makers, and this creative process taught me that if you want access to an opportunity, sometimes you have to create it – if not for yourself, for other people’s sakes. To our cast and crew, thank you so much for believing in Meg and I’s vision, even when blocking felt silly and we were snapping photos of y’all during Riri’s Super Bowl performance😭

I’m so proud to call myself a director, and this show is what made that possible. Sending love to every single person that attended or sent a sweet message about the show. So much more art coming very soon!🥰🥰🥰
