Meet Sophia Baxendale, MS in DACSS '26. Sophia works as a Institutional Research & Assessment Specialist in Assessment, Survey, and Effectiveness Research at UMass Amherst. Her work gives her the opportunity to directly advocate for students at UMass: "What makes this work really exciting to me is that a lot of the data we collect and analyze goes directly to campus leadership to improve experiences for all UMass students."

Last Friday I had the pleasure of speaking on an alumni panel for my graduate school, @spp_umass!

I had the most incredible experience speaking with the kind, bright, and passionate students in this year’s cohort. And shoutout to my amazingly intelligent and fabulous fellow panelists, Caitlyn and Ellie!!!

I really appreciated everyone’s thoughtful questions about navigating this interesting job market and exploring different career options and industries.

It was so fun to chat about the many options for a “nontraditional” 9-5 job and also reflect on the nonlinear nature of navigating one’s career journey and interests!

These students were waaay beyond advanced re. their thinking about the job market… folks were getting so creative in imagining different options, trying new classes and internships, and putting themselves out there to ask questions and make connections. UMass students always impress me, and I’m so proud to call it my 2x Alma mater :)

YAYYY! 😀🤍

P.S. It was also so much fun checking out the new Charles River campus in Newton!
