Sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures that mean the most. 🤍

On Sunday, a customer came into V&V and handed me a little bracelet that simply said “Smile.”

Her daughter makes them and gives them to strangers - waiters, chefs, anyone she meets, with one simple purpose: to spread a little joy and kindness. ❤️

We don’t always share these moments, but they happen more than you might think. People come through our doors, share their stories and remind us that a restaurant can be about so much more than the food on the plate.

I come in every day to cook for people because it’s what I love. And sometimes, a tiny bracelet from a stranger is enough to remind you why those little moments of human connection matter so much.

Be kind, spread joy and don’t forget to smile. 🤍

Our Abi is 21 on Thursday! ❤️
Last night we went to her birthday party.
Halloween.
Witch Princess.
In September. 😂
That’s our Abi!
There were witches, pumpkins, Scooby-Doo, a giant pink dinosaur and, at some point, Bob discovered the Halloween photo props...
Say no more. 😂
But the best bit was simply seeing Abi so happy.
When she was asked what she wanted for her 21st, she didn’t ask for anything grand.
She wanted to see people.
And she wanted everyone to be happy.
That’s it.
And that’s Abi.
She smiled, laughed and hugged people all night. Bob and I hardly stopped smiling from the minute we arrived.
Then came one present that nearly finished us off...
A pillow with Simon Cowell’s face on it. 😂❤️

Abi loves Simon, has met him and has been invited to his show, so whoever thought of that present absolutely nailed it.
@simoncowell we thought you might like to know you caused quite a stir at a 21st birthday party in Yorkshire last night... even from inside a plastic wrapper! 😂

From Halifax to Kuala Lumpur… who’d have thought it? ❤️📚
We found out today that the special Goldsboro Books edition of Split Second is available in Kuala Lumpur.
That really did make us stop for a minute.
Split Second was Goldsboro’s Crime Collective Book of the Month for August, and only a few weeks ago we were down in London signing all 750 copies of the special hardback edition.
We can still remember walking in and seeing all those books waiting for us. Quite a sight!
We even had our joylets on for the job Abi @SpreadJoywithAbi. ❤️
Then, on 27 August, the very same day Split Second was published by Orenda Books , David was in Kuala Lumpur opening The Goldsboro Room.
Same day. Other side of the world.
And now our Yorkshire crime story has somehow made its way there too.
A few weeks ago we were standing inside The Piece Hall in Halifax holding the paperback. Then came London and Goldsboro Books hardback. Now Kuala Lumpur.
It’s all a bit mad, really.
And Split Second has travelled another way too, thanks to Natalie Anderson , who has narrated the audiobook so brilliantly.
So from Halifax, to London, to Kuala Lumpur… and into people’s headphones too.
We’re still taking it all in.
Huge congratulations to David H Headley and everyone at Goldsboro Books on the new shop. What an achievement.
And thank you, as always, to everyone who is reading, listening, sharing and helping Split Second on its way. We really do appreciate every bit of it.

One of our favourite moments from today had nothing to do with signing books.
Before we started @goldsborobooks Books we gave the wonderful ladies there one of Abi’s Joylets Gaynor Joy.
The smiles said it all.
Before long, we were all wearing them, comparing them and admiring each other’s colours. It was such a simple thing, but it brought so much happiness to the day.
Abi, your Joylets really do live up to their name. ❤️
A huge thank you to the fantastic team at Goldsboro Books. You made today such a special experience for us, and your warmth and kindness meant more than you’ll ever know.
And a little thank you to the lovely Liz Green @cachelaboutique in Elland for helping me feel my best today too.
Sometimes it’s the little things that become the memories you treasure most.

What a wonderful day we had at Murder in the Rhubarb Triangle at Wakefield Library.
A huge thank you to Catherine Yaffe, Martin, Marcia and the entire Wakefield Library team for creating such a welcoming and brilliantly organised event. From start to finish, everything ran seamlessly, which is always a reflection of the hard work taking place behind the scenes.
It was especially fitting to be celebrating Crime Reading Month alongside so many talented authors, readers and book lovers. As members of the Crime Writers’ Association, we know how important events like these are in bringing people together and supporting libraries, authors and reading communities.
It was also lovely to catch up with the fabulous Pamela Clare and to meet so many readers who took the time to stop, chat and support the event.
We were particularly delighted that our fingerprint keyrings raised a few pounds for Focus4Hope, a charity very close to our hearts. Thank you to everyone who donated.
And finally, thank you, Catherine. Your passion for books, readers and writers shines through in everything you do. We came away inspired and are very much looking forward to reading your books.

We had the pleasure to work with Rays of Sunshine charity to grant Abi's wish to attend the live BGT semi finals and meet Simon Cowell 😀
Abi is an amazing young lady that spends some of her time making these amazing bracelets or joylets to hand out and spread a bit of joy......🥰
