Here’s to the very happy graduating class of 2021! These kids have a LOT to be proud of:
- Making it all the way to graduation after a year and a half of remote learning
- During that year, also publishing @passthespatula, and getting featured in @foodandwine, @nytimes, and the @drewbarrymore show
- Being the first ever class to send a student to an Ivy League school (congrats @chayil.co and @anth_trabasas!)
- Having not one but TWO winning teams of the @colavitausa challenge for a trip to Italy judged by @tomcolicchio and @fwscout
- Winning hundreds of thousands in scholarships among them
- Running the first ever Dining Lab Pop Up series at the school
- Having a twice published author among their ranks (congrats @shutupleo! @taste @chalkbeatorg)
- Having probably more jobs on each of their resumes than most 25 year olds, counting among them jobs at @lilianewyork @misinewyork @milkbarstore @martamanhattan @leucanyc @ccecornell @blackberryfarm and SO many others
- Racking up thousands of work based learning hours at events like @cherrybombe university, the @foodeducationfund gala, the @questlove and @kimbalmusk conversation, and so many others
- And above all, being kind, thoughtful, inspired, and incredibly hard working

#YallReallyDidThis!!!!!! We’re gonna miss you so much!!!!!!

EXCITING NEWS! Today, Cherry Bombe is helping kick off a campaign to support the bright, diverse food media of tomorrow! We’re partnering with the @foodeducationfund to raise $1,000,000 to endow a Food Media Program for New York City public high school students at Food and Finance High School, the High School of Hospitality Management, and the Brooklyn STEAM culinary program. 98% of these students are young people of color and they are the future cookbook authors, food video stars, magazine editors, food stylists, & leaders of the food world. We’re looking for other folks in the food industry to sign on as partners and pledge their support.

The Cherry Bombe team had the privilege of working with the Food and Finance students for the past 5 months on their first-ever student-run magazine @PassTheSpatula (did you order your copy yet?) and we came to learn they don’t have any food media programming. The students receive an NYC public high school education plus culinary training each day and many go on to attend the best culinary schools in the country and work in the hospitality field. Providing training and programing around writing, video production, photography, food styling, recipe development, cookbook creation, magazine production & graphic design will boost their skill sets & job prospects and give them an outlet for their interests in these areas at a time when their young lives have been turned upside down.

We know $1 million is a lot of money for these times, but this would endow the program for several years to come. Funds raised will go to the Food Education Fund, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works directly with these schools, to hire staffers to oversee the program, get the necessary equipment & supplies, and transform a kitchen classroom into a multi-media set where students can produce videos, film shows & do demos.

If you’d like to get involved as a partner or with work study & internships, please email questions@foodeducationfund.org. Know anyone who could donate or help? Tag them below. If you’re in the #Bombesquad & want to donate, we would love that! See link in bio. Any amount helps & all donations are tax deductible. 🍒💣💥

Our partnerships director (and current junior student) Dwight Smith is here to announce something BIG!!! Our juniors have been working hard alongside the incredible crew @cherrybombe to create a first-of-its-kind student magazine focusing on pioneer chefs of color, taking the place of this years’ #StudentShowcase! We’re looking for companies to take out ads in this magazine!
Ad sales will:
- Cover the printing costs (magazines aren’t cheap y’all!)
- Raise funds to support our students activism around #BLM hopefully for years to come
- Show our students, 98% of whom identify as BIPOC, that you support them and want to see their work take up more space in our food media landscape!

Ads are $750 for a full-page ad, DM for more details, and THANKS for your support!! Tag any companies who you think might be interested!
