Eleven years ago tonight, we opened the @deafwest revival of Spring Awakening on Broadway @springbway. I get goosebumps seeing this video from the night we were nominated for a Tony Award. Producing a musical with 8 deaf actors in the cast was a proud accomplishment for us all. The memories are even more tender now, because we lost our beloved composer Duncan Sheik, just 10 days ago. @theduncansheik we love you and will celebrate your contributions to music and theatre always. ❤️

RIP Duncan Sheik, a songwriter who defined a generation! I used to listen to SPRING AWAKENING on repeat and it still sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it! Thank you for expanding what musical theatre could be!

Let me tell you about high school Jake. I spent so much time belting out the soundtrack of Spring Awakening. In the car, in the shower, you name it. I still consider it to be one of my favorite shows.

The first national tour played the Kennedy Center. I saw the second national tour when it came to the Chicago when I was 15. The girl who played Wendla ended up being in Hamilton on Broadway.

RIP Duncan Sheik. I can’t wait to see the legacy you have left behind (literally) in this new upcoming Off-Broadway revival of Spring Awakening.
