✨ Join me for this year's Lettering Style Challenge, where I'm creating a new poster every day, each in a unique style, for 31 book titles, from classics to modern bestsellers, and even some of my personal favorites! Today's prompt was reverse contrast, a style that flips the usual thick and thin strokes of a typeface. While often used in Western lettering styles, it's also seen in some retro, groovy aesthetics as well. And you know I will take any chance to go full groovy 70's 🪩 😎⁣
✨ I chose Heart the Lover by Lily King, a literary fiction novel about a college love triangle that plays out over the course of decades, even following into the narrator's adult life. For the colors, I pulled inspiration from the book's cover, which just so happened to have the perfect groovy pink and orange palette, to which I added some pops of yellow and a whole lot of funky vibes! ⁣
✨ What do you think of this one? Let me know 👇🏻⁣

🪩 Swipe to disco! Does this poster make you feel like dancing!? 👇🏻⁣
✨ You may be asking yourself, did she really do yet another Lady Gaga poster after just doing a Lady Gaga poster, making this the 5th (or is it 6th?) of the year? Well, yes, yes she did. And she is me 😅😂 I can't help it okay?! 😅 😂 Her music is just super inspiring to me! Dance in the Dark is one of the songs I've had on my list to do forever because I love the sound of it but also the lyrics. She talks about only feeling alive truly herself when it's night time, something that I've always personally felt as well, and not just because I'm naturally nocturnal. There's something magical about night time when the world is asleep and you can just... be ...whatever or whoever you want to be.⁣
So let's all do a little dance in the dark and let yourself be truly free!⁣
✨ What do you think about this poster? Will you be dancing in the dark?! Let me know 👇🏻 ⁣

🌴 Swipe to relax 🔎 What does your perfect summer day look like? 👇🏻⁣
⁣⁣
✨ Endless summer isn't really about the actual season, it's more of a mindset. It's about slowing down and stepping away from the constant hustle, even just for a moment. And the best part? You don't need a plane ticket or a fancy destination to access it. Paradise can be wherever you are right now, whether that's an actual beach (which I'm a bit jealous of) or your own couch with a good book. All it really takes is choosing to breathe a little deeper and let your worries drift away, even just for the afternoon. ⁣

MY FAVORITE FOUNDRIES PT. 1

I always thought it was strange when designers talked about fonts independently of their foundries. That doesn’t rly happen in other creative mediums. Like you would never talk about music independently of the artists behind them.

It helped me understand the motivations and practices of foundries when i started to frame them more like musicians or architects. And then you get to notice their styles, or when they collab (like i didn’t know Céline Hurka was part of @wise_type , makes a lot of sense, i love her lol)

Also my favorite websites still mostly consist of foundry sites, and i think they really should be shown off more.

Crazy Plant Lady is born out of near creative burnout, a relatively newfound fondness for plants, a play on the trope of older, unattached women being cat ladies, and spring.

Fonts in use:
Climate Crisis Regular by @danielcoull + @einokyllayes + @googlefonts , Deseo Medium by @sprovierotype + @adobe, Inglesa Varibale by Alejandro Paul + @sudtipos + @adobe

The background images are botanical drawings in the public domain.

After years of the use of stripped-back sans serifs, designers are looking for type with swag. Flourishes, tails, loops…the louder the better! And they’re showing up everywhere: From branding to book covers. We love the way TTF foundries like P22 Type Foundry and Vintage Voyage Design have put their own unique spin swashbuckling. It looks like the age of quiet type is over for now.

ICYMI: Sproviero Type has a new home and we think it’s a worthy of Maximiliano’s award-winning catalog—intricate, swash-rich, and unlike anything else out there. Cheers to @_celj_ for the fantastic site design and @iansdotdev for the excellent build.

A stem swells like a dancer extending an arm. A curve narrows and opens again with the control of a pirouette. What was once a rigid system of separate fonts becomes a choreography of motion.

We care about variable fonts because they let you fine-tune weight, width, and slant with pinpoint precision. They’re the future of flexible, beautiful typography.
