🇬🇧: ✨ There are countless magnificent interiors from the 18th century that take our breath away and leave us spellbound. But there is one particular type of room that takes the elegance and opulence of the Baroque and Rococo periods to an entirely different dimension.

💎 GROTTO HALLS! 🐚✨

Created by the architect Carl von Gontard for King Frederick II of Prussia from 1767 onwards, this breathtaking hall is part of the magnificent Neues Palais in Potsdam. 👑🏰

🌍 A magical world of more than 20,000 different minerals, ores, fossils, slag, shells, snails and countless other natural treasures. The walls are adorned with these extraordinary materials from all over the world, transforming the room into a truly otherworldly masterpiece. 💎🪸🐌

📜 Originally, the Grotto Hall was decorated rather modestly. It was during the 19th century that its walls were embellished with the extraordinary rocks and minerals that give the room its unique appearance today. And according to local legend, the hall even contains a piece from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro! 🏔️💎 Imagine discovering a fragment of one of the world’s most famous mountains hidden within a royal palace.

✨SCHLOSS SANSSOUCI✨

The Kings music world! The Concert Hall of Sanssouci Palace 🤯🔥🎶

🇬🇧: 🎼 When I think of a concert hall, I do not imagine vast arenas or grand open air stages. My mind immediately wanders to this extraordinary room, a dream brought to life by a man with a profound love for music. ✨

The Music Room of King Frederick the Great of Prussia at Sanssouci Palace. 👑🎶

In my opinion, there are very few rooms that reveal the character of their creator quite so beautifully. This exquisite chamber in Frederick’s beloved summer palace in Potsdam is undoubtedly one of them.

Created in 1746 by some of the most talented artists and craftsmen of their time, it stands as a magnificent example of Frederician Rococo. Among the artists responsible for its splendid decoration were Johann August Nahl, Johann Christian Hoppenhaupt the Younger and Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt the Elder. 🎨

The walls are adorned with delicate Rococo carvings that seem to bring the garden outside into the room itself. 🌿 Grapevines, trailing foliage and even intricate spiderweb motifs weave their way across the walls and ceiling, creating a world of extraordinary elegance and imagination.

A true dream of the Rococo era! 🌸✨

At the heart of the room rests a fortepiano, alongside Frederick the Great’s flute and music stand. Instruments that evoke the presence of a king who was not merely a patron of the arts, but an accomplished musician himself. 🎹🪈

The paintings by Antoine Pesne add another layer of beauty, depicting scenes inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses and bringing classical mythology into this intimate musical sanctuary. 🖼️

For me, this is far more than a beautiful room. It is a glimpse into the soul of a king, where architecture, music, nature and art come together in perfect harmony. 💫

A masterpiece of Frederician Rococo. A room made for music, contemplation and dreams. 🎼🏛️
