Yesterday.....we did a thing! Really pleased that I've just been accepted onto Team @builtforathletes as a Community Ambassador. For some time I have thought about what fitness looks like when you hit 40+, in particular cardiovascular health. Research consistently shows that men develop cardiovascular disease and experience their first heart attacks 7 to 10 years earlier than women - some mad stats on this (and yes I am aware you could have a HA and be the fittest person on the planet!) But since I stopped playing football, I didn't really have an alternative (and I would play football wherever I could get a game - remember @markirob22 ?) I have always been a pretty good runner but hate running. I would also get bored sitting in the 'weights room'. Great! For the last 2-3 years I was already (unknowingly) into, what is more commonly now known as "Hybrid training".... I was also doing regular mad classes with @kiimaxfords right through lockdown (in gardens on zoom!) In the past few months I competed in Hyrox events (did I mention it?) - probably one of the hardest fitness events I have done. I had suddenly found the perfect training combination. I also recently hooked up again with my friend @spt.gym @health_is_wealth_with_spt who is going to beast my strength The @hyroxuk community is amazing - its so cool to see all walks of life compete in these savage races. Quietly behind the scenes I'm getting the PT 2 & 3 done - not to become a PT - doesn't work like that. I would rather keep learning. Long term, add further fitness education / certs and maybe have a small client base (but we're talking super long term). @builtforathletes have been a staple in the functional fitness community for a good while now and it's a brand I genuinely rate. So, anyone who wants to grab some kit - use my link or code at checkout for 15% off (20% if between 20/5 - 25/5 automatically applied) 🔗 https://upf.ai/j8fmsu2 🏷️ Code: TERRY15 Still flying the flag for the 40+ crew and loving every minute of it One last thing, please like, share, comment @builtforathletes #TeamBuiltForAthletes #HYROX #FitOver40 #FunctionalFitness #CommunityAmbassador

Testing footballers today at SPT Fitness—and uncovering a hidden performance issue that’s far more common than most realise. Upper body sarcopenia in footballers is a genuine concern, yet it often flies under the radar. Here’s why: legs maintain muscle mass through constant use—running, cutting, jumping, kicking. But without adequate calories and protein, the upper body becomes a casualty, dropping to the low end of normal or below. Why this matters for performance: ⚽ Physical duels – Upper body strength is critical for holding off defenders, winning aerial challenges, and maintaining balance under pressure ⚽ Injury prevention – Shoulder, chest, and core strength protect against impact injuries and improve overall structural resilience ⚽ Power transfer – Sprint mechanics, shooting power, and explosive movements all rely on upper body contribution to the kinetic chain ⚽ Metabolic reserve – Muscle tissue supports recovery, hormonal balance, and energy availability throughout a demanding season This isn’t just a footballer problem—distance runners face the exact same issue. The solution? Regular body composition testing and precise macro adjustments. You can’t optimise what you don’t measure. At Theorem Metabolic, we use mBCA (multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis) to track muscle mass distribution across all body segments, ensuring every athlete—not just their legs—is properly fuelled for performance. Coley Johnson prepping for today's blood testing sessions 🩸 Here's what nobody tells you: 80% of metabolic issues that kill your gains show up in bloodwork months before you feel them. Suboptimal thyroid slowing your metabolism. Hormones undermining muscle growth. Kidney stress from high protein. Nutrient deficiencies destroying performance. You won't feel most of these until they've already cost you months of progress. Elite motorsport teams don't wait for the engine to blow before checking the data. Why should you? Today's panels include: 🩸 General Health Markers 🩸 Kidney Function (crucial for high protein intake) 🩸 Thyroid Profile (your metabolic control centre) 🩸 Food Intolerance Testing (IgG antibodies) 🩸 Hormone Panels (the performance game-changer) Whether training naturally or enhanced, regular bloodwork isn't optional if you're serious about longevity. Measure, don't guess. Adjust before symptoms appear. 📍 Stack House Gym Rayleigh, Island Gym, Canvey Island, SPT Fitness Southend, & Hybrid Hub, Leigh-on-Sea 💬 DM or visit theorem.fit Your Performance, squared² #TheoremMetabolic #BloodTesting #DataDrivenFitness #MetabolicHealth #ProactiveHealth #HormoneHealth #CanveyIsland #LeighOnSea #EssexFitness #MeasureDontGuess

🔥 EATING 1,100 MORE CALORIES, WEIGHING LESS: Scott's Data-Driven Transformation Meet Scott Thompson, owner of SPT Fitness Southend, holding his latest blood test, being readied for the lab after a journey that challenges everything you think you know about nutrition and body composition. The "Impossible" Results: Several months ago, Scott stepped got measured on our Seca medical-grade body composition analyser (pictured) for comprehensive mBCA and RMR testing. The data revealed what his scales couldn't tell him - his metabolism was suppressed, his body composition wasn't optimal, and his nutrition strategy was working against him, not for him. The Theorem Metabolic Approach: Instead of cutting calories like conventional wisdom suggests, we increased Scott's daily intake by 1,100 calories and restructured his macros based on his precise metabolic data. The result? His body weight is now LOWER than when he was eating far less. This isn't magic - it's metabolic science in action. Why This Works: When we measured Scott's actual resting metabolic rate rather than guessing from online calculators, we discovered his body was in survival mode. By providing adequate fuel matched to his true energy needs, his metabolism recovered, his body composition improved, and sustainable fat loss became inevitable rather than a struggle. The Responsible Approach: Scott isn't just celebrating results - he's monitoring them responsibly. Today's comprehensive blood testing (hormones and food intolerances) ensures his transformation is built on solid foundations and his health remains optimized as his body continues adapting. Your Performance, squared² - because measuring beats guessing every time. Why you need to get tested for the sake of your health 🚨 Even fitness professionals are getting tested to understand their true metabolic picture... Some of the problems we commonly see: ❌ The Generic Trap: Macro calculators putting people 500-1000+ calories under what their body actually needs ❌ The Slow Down: Metabolisms adapting to match low intake (survival mode) ❌ The False Maintenance: People thinking their calories are "right" because eating more causes water retention (carb ceiling breached) What our RMR + mBCA testing reveals: ✅ Your ACTUAL daily calorie needs (not a guess) ✅ Your real metabolic burn rate ✅ Why bodies hold onto fat despite "perfect" nutrition ✅ Custom meal plans with proper portions, timing & macros The pattern we see repeatedly? People aren't lazy or lacking willpower - they're following nutritional advice that doesn't match their individual physiology. Even experienced trainers like Dave here are discovering insights about their metabolism they never knew 💪 Stop guessing. Start knowing. Your metabolism deserves better than generic advice. 🤝 When passionate fitness professionals seek next-level solutions for their clients... Meet Scott Thompson from SPT Fitness - a dedicated coach who truly understands what it means to put clients first 💪 Scott has been watching the transformations we've been achieving with clients from various coaching partners across Essex. The results spoke for themselves. Improved energy. Better body composition. More sustainable progress. Rather than assume he had all the answers, Scott wanted to experience our testing process first-hand. Not just for himself, but to better understand how this data could benefit the everyday people he coaches 📊 We visited SPT Fitness to conduct comprehensive metabolic testing with Scott. RMR analysis. VO₂ Max assessment. Blood biomarker evaluation. The full picture of his metabolic health, right there in his own training environment. Despite being in excellent shape with years of training experience, our testing revealed some interesting insights. Areas where Scott's incredible work ethic was actually working against optimal results ⚡ Scott didn't see these findings as criticism. He saw them as opportunities. Specific, measurable data points that could be addressed with targeted interventions. We're now working together to optimise Scott's metabolic efficiency. Fine-tuning his approach based on HIS unique physiology. Not generic recommendations, but personalised strategies derived from his actual data 🎯 Meeting the SPT Fitness team in Southend reinforced something we see consistently: the best coaches are always learning. Always seeking better ways to serve their clients. Scott's willingness to embrace data-driven optimisation means his clients will benefit from cutting-edge personalised approaches. Moving beyond guesswork to precision. The ripple effect of evidence-based coaching...
