Hi, Wellington.

It’s been about 2months since I arrived in New Zealand. And I’ve finally settled in Wellington after a short trip to Auckland.

My first impression of Wellington was that it was cold, rainy and honestly a little gloomy. It almost made me question my decision to move here.

As usual, I found myself wondering how I’d make it work here and find new things to enjoy. The first three weeks were pretty hectic with so many things to sort out.

But slowly, things started falling into place. I found a new place to live and moved in with some friendly and welcoming Kiwi flatmates. It’s quite a social house so we chat a lot and often have flat dinner together. I usually try to cook traditional Korean dishes because I wanna show them how good korean food can be,,,

I also found a job just a 10min walk from house. It’s a cafe during the day and sometimes turns into a wine bar at night. Wine is pretty much the only alcohol I drink these days. Everyone at work is friendly and welcoming and I’m learning a lot along the way.

Sometimes, life in NZ feels a little uneventful but at the same time, it feels like a new chapter of my life has begun here in Wellington.

For now, I’m just trying to stay present and take things as they come whatever happens. I don’t wanna regret the choices I’ve made. I just wanna keep experiencing new things, exploring different sides of life and making the most of this journey. 웃자😌

@swimsuitcoffee making sure your matcha fix is satisfied doesn’t matter which part of town you’re in.

@the_oatery is where we go when we’re craving porridge & a matcha!

June absolutely flew by! ✨
Between exciting new openings and finally ticking off places we’d been meaning to visit, it was one of our busiest foodie months yet.

Our kitchen renovation also meant we had every excuse to eat out more than usual. Stay tuned for Part 2 featuring all the places that became our weekly rotation. 🍴

One of my favourite June highlights was walking the newly opened Te Ara Tupua walkway and visiting the Capital of Kai exhibition at Wellington Museum.

That was us with Squirrel.

Inside is a cosy little café with fresh flowers on every table, great coffee, a delicious matcha, and one of the best granola bowls we’ve had in a while.

Sometimes the best cafés aren’t the newest or the trendiest, they’ve been there all along, just waiting for you to walk through the door ☕️🌸

So we headed up Mount Victoria, one of Wellington’s easiest city walks

Love letter to #Wellington … what to EAT

Having lived in the world’s coolest little capital for 20 years, can I please take you on a personal tour.

Wake up to some of the best coffees in the world. In the city I would go @littlegrumpnz essential you try their black sesame kouign Amman or quiche of the day. @squirrel.nz and @glouglou.nz has great coffee and pastries. Anything @coffee_supreme @peoplescoffeenz is excellent

For lunch do yourself a favour and try a real pie @pukupiess now open in the city - their jalapeño and steak pie is a must!
There’s a good underground foodcourt @willislane_nz & what better than @duckislandicecream for mid conference ice cream!

Otherwise @onebowlandplate @kc_review @littlepenangnz are great cheap and cheerful Asian choices around the city. Most locals would actually head towards Cuba Street for best cafes/dining options. So many cafes and restaurants to choose from:

For dinners:

@highwatereatery mod nz, always delicious, tables for small groups, great cocktails
@ombracuba great Italian, cocktails

Medium sized groups:
@lorettaoncuba fantastic tasty group dinners, super fast and friendly service

Actually right next door are two great mod nz dine spots @rosellasbar great wine bar @koji.restaurant fun Asian fusion but music is loud.. that’s fine you’re young

Really special places:
@bellamysnz not sure you can dine within a parliament anywhere else on earth but this beautiful restaurant is upstairs of the beehive & always try to show case nz cuisine/ingredients
@grazewinebar this fantastic neighbourhood bistro in the upper end of the botanical gardens is serving some of the city’s most creative delicious foods. They do a fab chefs menu and you can sit at the bar or cozy into their intimate little hub. The chef super passionate about local ingredients and where to source them. Always learn lots chatting!
