Apparently this is what happens when two therapists have an adult play date. 😂

I brought Heidi a bag of squishies and made her rate them 0–10.

We had RMS dumplings, Needoh, Top Trenz, a giant Walgreens shark, and a few other questionable choices. 😂

And for the record, I have to disagree with Heidi’s 3/10 on the Needoh Gumdrop. I’m giving that one an 8. I love the texture and that firmer squish.

But the best part of this wasn’t really the ratings.

Heidi said something that stuck with me: as adults, we forget to play.

Yes, things like squishies can be used as sensory tools. They can give your hands something to focus on, help bring attention back to the present moment, and for some people they’re just a simple way to slow down when they’re stressed or anxious.

I use them with clients, but I also use them in real life. I’ll sit on the couch squeezing one, my daughter and I trade them, and sometimes one comes along in the car while we’re running around to activities or dinner.

And honestly, it doesn’t have to be a squishy.

Paint. Color. Build something. Collect something. Do a craft. Play a game. Pick up an old hobby.

Adults need play too.

So…whose house should I show up to next with the squishy bag? 😂
