Visual artist working across landscape and governance. Co-Head, UK Policy Lab.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Stephen Bennett @srgbennett is an artist who explores the relationships between art, knowledge, and power. He regularly situates his practice in government institutions, such as the time he helped the Department for Transport engage bodily with the impact of street design on pedestrians through the medium of tactile maps. More broadly, he has spent the past decade creating space for artists and creative practitioners to contribute to policymaking. This work links directly with the dialogical and relational activity of the Artists Placement Group. He is the founder and lead artist of MANIFEST, a programme which supports artists, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, to work in policy teams. Stephen is the co-Head of the UK Policy Lab, a Champion for the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre.

COMING SOON !!! ‘Under The Same Sky’ At PaintSpaces Gallery Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June 2026 , 11-4pm This new exhibition reflects on the idea that all life exists beneath the same sky, a unifying presence that connects us across place, culture, and experience. Following previous exhibitions Landlines and Waterlines, which focused on the elemental forces of land and water, Under the Same Sky broadens the lens. The sky becomes both subject and metaphor: a shared canopy, a shifting atmosphere, a space of light, weather, distance, and wonder. It invites reflection on our relationship with nature and one another, encouraging artists to explore themes of connection, interdependence, and belonging. Artists have responded freely to the title, resulting in a rich and varied exhibition rooted in the natural world. Through painting, drawing and mixed media, the works on display explore changing horizons, fleeting light, environmental awareness, and the quiet continuity that binds all living things. Artwork will be available to buy! Exhibiting Artists: Anthony Garratt , Catalina Christensen, Catherine Greenwood, Debbie Tearle, Eva Ullrich, Geraldine van Heemstra, Ibby Lanfear, Jyoti Bharwani, Kerrie O’Leary, Laura Melissa Williams, Louisa Burnett-Hall, Louise Ann Wilson, Louisa Crispin, Lucinda Devenish, Luke M Walker, Polly Bennett, Sam Gare, Somewhere-nowhere - Rob and Harriet Fraser, Stephen Bennett, Wanlin Chang, Yeside Linney @samanthagare @ludevenish @ibbylanfear @paintspaces_studio @polbensapothecary @wan_lin_chang @louiseann.wilson @lukemwalker_artist @louisaburnetthall @catalina.christensen @louisacrispin @yesidelinney @kerrieoleary.ie @somewhere_now.here @evaullrich @catherinegreenwood_ @_anthony_garratt_ @geraldinehvh @lauramelissawilliams @srgbennett @debbietearleart

Under the Same Sky | STEPHEN R.G.BENNETT The works shown here combine satellite imagery of North American landscapes with water, pigment and laser engraving to explore how shared planetary systems are shaped unevenly by human decision-making. ‘Surface History’ and ‘The Way is Dust of the Way’ use water to disrupt inkjet prints on acetate, allowing gravity, flow and chance to fracture images of managed landscapes. ‘Valley I’ and ‘Valley VII’ bring this process onto paper, where laser engraved lines echo infrastructure cut into the land. Together, the works suggest that while we live under the same sky, the ground beneath us records vastly different pressures, histories and futures - a surface where the climate, policy and bodily vulnerability quietly converge. Surface History 2026 Inkjet on acetate 57 x 41 cm (unframed), 73 x 53cm (framed) £750 (framed) The Way is the Dust of the Way 2026 Inkjet on acetate 57 x 41 cm (unframed)), 73 x 53cm (framed) £750 (framed) Valley I 2025 Acrylic and laser engraving on paper 29 x 21 cm (unframed), 44 x 31cm (framed) £325 (framed) Valley VIII 2025 Acrylic and laser engraving on paper 39 x 29 cm (unframed), 53 x 43cm (framed) £450 (framed) We are located on the first floor in Shires Yard, just beyond @root_bath and @bramleyproducts and opposite @electricbearcub. SANDRA HIGGINS ART & ART STOP BOUTIQUE Shires Yard Units 12&13 41 Milsom Street, Bath BA1 1BZ #SandraHigginsArt #ContemporaryArt #wildernessartcollective #srgbennett

Throwback to last Sunday's @yes_art_london Art Fair at @bigpennysocial Had an absolute Blast at my first Arft Fair and first outing with #HOOKEDonCORAL . Thank you! 🧡 🗃 Thank you to all those who visited Barbara Steveni: I Find Myself and explored the pioneering and influential work of an artist who influenced so many artists of different generations and the way we think about art and its purpose. 👩‍🎨 Thank you to @studioprouvostsocialclub, Anne Bean and @eloisehsir for spectacular new commissions, breathing life (and confetti!) into the galleries. ✍️ Thank you to Gareth Bell-Jones (@flattimeho ) and @drjomelvin , whose tireless work and research created such an exciting exhibition. 🪑 Thank you to @srgbennett , our volunteers, Barbara’s friends and family, and so many more who helped to activate The Sculpture with discussions that filled the gallery with ideas, challenges, inspiration, and collaboration. Whilst our Upper Galleries will now be closed as we install a new exhibition, our Ground Floor Gallery has re-opened with Estampa: Archival Corpus, following in Barbara Steveni’s footsteps as it re-examines the archive as a site of production and creation. We’ll see you there!

A few weeks back saw the culmination of this current years cohort of #manifest from Policy Lab part of the UK Government, #manifest supports artists in exploring how their work can enrich policymaking. I was privileged to show work alongside @kasiamolga @yaraanddavina at Somerset House. The gallery was packed and the introductory talks and work had rich cross overs. All in there own way, revealing the challenges and limits of the current systems we govern by. For me all the works seemed to offer space, time and mirror to reflect, guide & remind what it is to be a whole human in a system that doesn’t acknowledge that. Thanks to @srgbennett and the whole team at Policy Lab & Somerset House. Thanks to everyone who came and all the friendly faces I’ve not seen in a while. I’ll post more details shortly about the particular work I made: Reimagining schooling for the end of what we know (2025:2036)-2100 Also look out for Barbara Steveni: I Find Myself @modernartoxford co-curated by Gareth Bell-Jones @flattimeho and Jo Melvin which houses Artists Placement Groups The Sculpture x Policy Lab: Contemporary and Historical examples of artists working in Policy. MANIFEST will be in dialogue with APG which I’ll be a taking part in.

How to Navigate Unregulated Waters / blueprints. Or a set of propositions inspired by and for researchers and policy makers (and public) who deal with threats and risks coming from climate tipping points. One work (among 3) is a video, with visualisation of the future North Sea, generated with AI climate prediction models from @newrealcc, featuring interviews of DEFRA people who came to my studio in May 2024 to test some scenarios of the effects of CTP on the North Sea and uk coastal areas. This work is part of MANIFEST residency ~ a Policy Lab’s programme to support artists, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, to consider the role of art in policymaking and it is Informed by historical resonances with the Artists Placement Group. And i exhibit it next to stellar work of @leveneruth and @yaraanddavina. All made possible by amazing @srgbennett. On view in Somerset house from 11th to 15th of February. . . . . #climateart #apg #manifest #aiart #oceans #oceansfutures #climatefutures
