Sadly, most people will never get the help they need because the ones called to care for them will never accept the new normal.
When Mommy was first diagnosed with Dementia, it was hard to process and come to terms with her diagnosis. It was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking.
1. I didn’t understand the severity of the disease
2. I didn’t understand how my mother could be diagnosed with dementia after living a “good” life.
3. I couldn’t process what it meant for her future
4. The beginning still seemed normal, so that I couldn’t imagine a tragic ending

After the initial shock wore off, I stepped out of denial into acknowledgment. Most people never get past that first step. Some stay in the cycle of denial, and it’s dangerous because the denial stage robs you of moving forward into acceptance + action.

I can’t tell you when to move forward, but I can offer wisdom.

Acknowledging allows you to educate yourself, get your LO the care they need, get their affairs in order, and determine what life will look like moving forward.
Here are some tips:
1. Educate yourself. I mean, dig deep and research. Sign up for classes to learn more about dementia 👉🏾incaseiforgetconsulting.com
2. Join a support group
3. Get your LO legal documents/affairs in order @srlawgrp @janeallisonaustin
4. Start researching adult care/home care options and start looking for a caregiver
5. Create a plan for YOUR self-care
6. Do what’s best for YOUR LO and let everyone else mind their business
7. Implement strategies in the beginning and advocate for your LO

This journey isn’t easy, but we’ve got this. Let’s beat this.
