STRANGE LAGRAAAAANGE!!!! -was a blast!! With my birthday being on Halloween, the month tends to be super busy and jam packed with fun activities so I like to celebrate by sprinkling in multitudes of fun experiences with friends. Going to Strange Lagrange, spending time with my friend Martin and exploring the Milwaukee Public Museum was such a fun way to kickstart the month! 🎃
Jay @tradwife.thylacine does a great job ensuring people are having fun, being safe and stoking the firey passion pit of creatives that she brings together for this fest!! ❤️‍🔥✨

I have been thinking about how to say this without sounding like I’m saying anything too terribly disparaging about the other one – but on this past Sunday we had a REAL Door County jazz festival, borne out of the hard work and sweat of actual local Door Countians, who put a ton of TLC into curating and making a special day of highly eclectic jazz, from here and afar, for the real locals of Door County.
The #JazzOnJefferson festival was nothing short of straight up amazing. Featuring an extremely diverse roster, there was music that surely challenged the audience but did not insult their intelligence by assuming that they only would only listen to the most candy coated trite version of jazz. And that challenging stuff was balanced with some more palatable fare for good measure.
Too often, we operate under the premise that the lowest common denominator of acceptably safe music is the safe bet to fill seats, and, to my sheer blissed out delight, this was not the case with this festival. I watched many older people, who I thought would have absolutely been mortified, nodding their heads and smiling in excitement to the likes of Son Reis Project. That made me smile big time. That made me SO proud of Door County. All of it did.
People hung with it all!!
I’ll be honest, in my wildest dreams this was the kind of event that i never would have imagined could happen here.
From a purely selfish standpoint, as a person who has been longing for a jazz community and feeling more and more disconnected from that dream, this festival made me see a possible future of Door County that I can belong and remain in.
I am eternally grateful to the fine folks at MUSE and Dromhus as well as a host of individuals on the board of the festival that toiled over making this happen.
It went off without a hitch!! Also, the idea of rotating the audience between an indoor and outdoor stage initially seemed unfeasible to me, but turned out to be such a genius idea!

I am very excited for the years to come.🙏🏻🤞🏼

Thanks to all who played and all who came, from the bottom of my heart!

My only complaint- The Simsons should have headlined!

Highlight- fistbump from #ErnieWatts post bassin’🤯❤️
