A few days late, but I wanted to take a moment to express the joy I had to work & perform these incredible young musicians at @stolafcollege @stolafmusic @st.olafjazz . Shout out to the incredible musician & educator @josephljeffersonmusic . He's doing some AMAZING things with his program. As an educator I always stress the idea that we should deal in hope as educators and not hospice. Prof Jefferson is dealing so much hope with his program, it was a complete pleasure to spend time with his incredible program, and faculty that he has with him. Thanks again everyone 🙌🏿🙏🏿

Had a fun Sunday hearing @gracemchandler_ play her last gig with the @st.olafjazz Jazz Ensemble. We feel so lucky that she has had @josephljeffersonmusic as a mentor. Thank you, Dr. Jefferson! In a bonus, we got to visit @stantonairfield where Grace has been working. Among many cool airplanes at this former WWII training field on the national register of historic places, we saw an old Link simulator that was used at Stanton. We also got to see a glider made of spruce that was built years ago by a 13-year old. A great weekend celebrating our daughter.

Here's a beautiful, lyrical clarinet melody from Aileen Razey backed by St. Olaf Jazz 1. Can you name this composition? 🎶

No cheating, St. Olaf Jazz... 😉

St. Olaf Jazz I, directed by Joseph L. Jefferson, will perform at @themidwestclinic this Thursday, December 18 at 10 a.m. This is the first time a St. Olaf ensemble has received this prestigious invitation, and the students of Jazz I are honored to represent the college’s incredible music program.

The performance will highlight a wide-ranging repertoire and spotlight three exceptional guest artists: trombonist Nick Finzer, saxophonist Sharel Cassity, and Aileen Razey, assistant professor of music at St. Olaf College, who will take the stage to play clarinet in Duke Ellington’s The Tattooed Bride.

For those of you in attendance at Midwest, we can’t wait to have you join us! 🦁🎺🖤💛
