Let’s talk about Heidelberg 🇩🇪

This weekend I was part of three events: a live remix battle, a production showcase and a talk. But what I’ll remember most is the people.

@staaatic808 invited me after we met in Groningen earlier this year at the European Academic Hip Hop Network meeting. We’ve all heard “let’s build” or “let’s keep in touch” without anything following. Bryan followed through. He and @the_real_toni_l worked tirelessly to bring the second annual @hiphopkulturtage to life, and it was special.

My knowledge of German Hip Hop was limited before this trip. I met incredible people, witnessed some seriously talented artists and had conversations that will stay with me. I felt welcomed from the start. Toni told me I’m part of their family now.

That means a lot. That sense of belonging is something I’ve spent a long time searching for closer to home.

There was a real community here, brought together by conscious Hip Hop. So few phones out. People listening, being present and sharing the moment.

The trip also came with an unexpected adventure: KLM left my suitcase in Amsterdam on the way to Frankfurt. A kind stranger, Franklin, was also heading to Heidelberg. He waited three hours for my bag, then brought it with him on a two-hour journey. I had to leave the event early to collect it at 10:30pm, but his kindness made a stressful situation easier.

So much love to the brilliant people I met, including:

@the_real_torch @mrginsoul @ze.camel @lenastoehrfaktor @figubbrazlevic / @krekpekrecords @hodi_flow @gravito.deutschrap @mainfoncept58 @djsoundtrax @beatsundbars_hd @theflamebymartinstieber @wilczynski @denialbee @bruderbender @inspectormadshit and so many more.

Hopefully I’ll be back soon. New connections, new inspiration and so many memories.

THIS IS WHAT HIP HOP IS ABOUT. A worldwide, borderless, inclusive community. 🌍❤️

Really looking forward to heading to Heidelberg next weekend for Hip Hop Kulturtage 🇩🇪

I’ll be involved across three days:

🥊 Friday - jumping into a live beat battle, going head-to-head with a local beatmaker while working alongside local MCs and singers.

🎛️ Saturday - an hour-long production showcase, sharing some of my music, process and the different projects I’ve been working on.

🍩 Sunday - I’ll be talking about Dilla: The Timeless Tribute, the story behind the album, working with the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation, and the influence Dilla continues to have on my work.

It’s always special getting the chance to connect with Hip Hop communities in different places, so I’m really looking forward to this one.

Bristol → Heidelberg 🇬🇧🇩🇪
