Got an installment reminder from CRA and felt your stomach drop?

Take a breath. It’s not a penalty, it’s just CRA’s way of saying “pay-as-you-go” instead of “pay-it-all-at-once.”

Tax installments are periodic prepayments toward what you’ll owe this year, and they mostly apply to self-employed business owners, freelancers, and contractors (basically anyone whose income doesn’t have tax withheld at source).

If you owed more than $3,000 in net tax in the current year and in one of the past two years, CRA expects you to pay quarterly instead of dropping it all at once next spring.

Here’s the fairness piece people miss. If you owed the government $100k but didn’t have to pay it until year-end, you would get to sit on that money and earn interest on it in the meantime. Installments are CRA’s way of leveling that out, they want their share paid along the way instead of letting you float it all year.

Swipe through for how installments are calculated, the quarterly due dates you need on your radar, and what actually happens if you miss one (spoiler: installment interest, not a spiral).

The real upside is there’s no huge tax bill shock next April.

If you’re not sure whether installments apply to your business, that’s exactly the kind of thing your bookkeeper or accountant should be flagging before it becomes a surprise, not after.

Still doing everything yourself? Burnout often will make the hiring decision for you if you don’t make it first.

Most business owners don’t struggle to know when to hire, but they do struggle to feel confident saying yes to the expense. That confidence comes from knowing your numbers. When you’re looking at your revenue and cash flow consistently, decisions like hiring stop feeling like a gamble and start feeling like a plan.

Remember, you don’t have to hire for everything at once. Start with the one task draining you the most.

Taxes are inevitable. Panic doesn’t have to be.

The difference isn’t luck, and it isn’t having a “simpler” business than everyone else. It just comes down to staying ahead of it.

This includes:
➕ tracking your numbers as you go
💰 making moves before December 31st instead of scrambling after
🚨 treating tax season as a wrap-up instead of a fire drill

That kind of calm is available to you, it just starts earlier than you think.

And that’s our mission at Thrive: clarity, confidence, and control over your numbers, all year round, not just in a scramble every spring.

Filing your taxes is NOT the same as planning them.

Filing looks back. It reports what already happened.

Planning looks ahead. It’s the decisions you make now that actually change what you owe later.

Most small business owners only ever do the first one. And by the time you’re filing, most of the good options are already gone.

Fall is actually a GREAT time to have this conversation, as there’s still runway left in the year to make moves that matter.

When’s the last time you talked to your accountant about anything other than filing? Tell us below.

We are so grateful to Thrive Accounting for sponsoring our retreat this year!

@thriveaccounting was built by @staci.millard, a CPA who grew her first accounting firm into a seven-figure company before 35, then sold it.

She’s also @chergoetz_ own accountant, so this isn’t just a sponsor we picked, it’s someone we already trust with our own numbers.

Along the way, Staci worked with thousands of business owners and kept seeing the same thing: it was never about effort. Founders had the drive, they just didn’t have clarity on their numbers. That’s what Thrive exists to fix.

Thank you, Staci, for supporting this community again.

Some of the most extraordinary people in your life are still strangers.

Some of them might be sitting right beside you in the next ROOM you choose to enter.

For founders who’ve already built something real. Who know there’s still so much more to experience, create and become.

We talk a lot about numbers and taxes on this page. But most money habits are an autopilot problem.

Old fears, stories, and patterns will often play on repeat every time a financial decision comes up.

We want you to know that fix doesn’t have to be complicated! It really comes down to your own awareness and catching the moment.

Before you make any money-related decisions, take 90 seconds to calm your nervous system. Then ask what your highest self would actually do, not your scared self reacting to something from years ago.

When’s the last time you made a conscious money decision? How did that feel for you? Tell us below! 💵

This is LEGACY ✨

This past weekend, we gathered at The Joy Sanctuary to refine our talks, laugh until our faces hurt, celebrate the birth of @staci.millard and the sisterhood that has grown through this experience.

We came together through @selina.gray and the Legacy Mastermind to become stronger speakers, but what we found was so much more than that...

We found each other. ❤️

Women who believe in one another. Tell the truth. Challenge each other to break through, go deeper and keep moving forward.

Women who celebrate the wins, hold space for the messiness and, most importantly, genuinely want to see each other rise.

What started as a mastermind has become a deeply connected sisterhood, blasting through ceilings and becoming even more of who we came here to be.

And the best part? We get to do it together.

THIS is legacy. 👑 See you at TBL. ✨
