POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
EDA Surf Art has officially turned 20 years old. It feels like just yesterday I was sitting in a Circuit City parking lot, debating whether to spend my life savings on a 12-megapixel digital camera and then travel through New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii with my girlfriend Cornelia, capturing the beauty of water through my lens for the winter.

At the time, my father had been perfecting a groundbreaking technique for printing artwork on metal, making it weatherproof and resilient outdoors—a concept virtually unheard of back then. Faced with a choice between a steady teaching job or chasing an uncertain dream, I took the leap. I walked into that store, bought the camera, and the rest is history.

As I reflect on these 20 years, I am filled with gratitude. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of key people in my life.

To my wife, @neals_ruttkay —thank you for believing in me from day one. You took a chance on a dream with no certainty, and your faith has never wavered.

To my parents, Tom and Mary Ruttkay—my father showed me a creative dream was possible and then how to execute, and my mother, the backbone of the business, kept everything on track. Without her, I wouldn’t be here today.

To @alohashandog808 and @realtorcathynorthshore in Hawaii—thank you for always welcoming me to the North Shore with open arms and endless support.

To @darrickd —your guidance in big waves gave me confidence I never knew I had.

To @surf_city_mike and @surfcitysurfshop —thank you for giving my art a platform from the very beginning.

To @jasonadams1 and @lighthousebeerandwine your support has meant more than I can express.

And to my customers—it is an honor of a lifetime to create for you. Your love for water aesthetics fuels this journey every day.

The Mission Continues

Water is the most powerful force in the universe. When installed in a space, it transforms the environment—bringing the essence of the ocean, and the energy of the waves into daily life. This is the heart of EDA Surf Art, and I will carry this mission forward until my last breath.

Respect to the water. Much love and gratitude to all of you.
