Saro was absolutely killing it during the SHUT session at the Brooklyn Banks. Seeing him skate there again brought a lot of history into the moment.

@saroskatesnow rode for Dogtown from 1989 to 1991 and skated alongside the original SHUT crew. He captured footage from that era and still shares stories that help keep the history alive. Through my 20 years with SHUT, he’s been one of my favorite people in skateboarding and a friend who’s always shown up for me.

When we had the shop on Orchard Street, Saro would drop by with Armenian pizza. We’d sit on the bench out front, eat lunch, and talk about the old days. Watching him skate the Banks at this event meant a lot to me.

Big love to Saro. Thanks to my business partners and the SHUT staff for making this happen. And shout out to Eli Gesner, Chris Pastras, Jefferson Pang, Red Bull, and The Boardr crew AND Many More for a special day at the Banks.

Had a great time at the @redbullskate ORIGIN event today, bombing these giant skate ramps at the Brooklyn Banks. @metalmaned built out the train ramps, and @ocularge and the @shutnyc crew gave me the call to paint. A lot of people have been sharing pictures from the 90s. It reminds me of the good times I’ve had. I don’t usually share too much personal stuff here but I’m happy to share that I loved growing up in NYC in the 80s and 90s. It was a time and place that allowed me to be creative and surround myself with diversity, culture and a safe place to be myself. Thank you

Dustin Washington is a Harlem-based artist, a native of New York City. His artistic style draws inspiration from Picasso's African and Blue periods, as well as graffiti, abstract expressionism, surrealism, and traditional African art.
