The long awaited first solo project from Karen Clark Sheard came out on #IslandBlackRecords Polygram in 1997, the label that would eventually sign me through Ronald Isley to release #SoulOfAWoman

“Finally Karen” was recorded live in Detroit and the label wanted to have some Studio records that would be ready to go to all formats to maximize exposure and play.

I was enlisted to write a Kelly Price type record to be used for Karen Clark‘s first single. They needed a single and I was the go to girl.
This was a dream come true for me being a lifelong Clark Sister Stan, and in my head I’m an honorary Clark that maybe was switched out at birth! 😂😂😂 #DontJudgeMe

Obviously, I said yes, and the result was this song written by yours truly!
Thank you @stanleyabrown for bringing me on to this project. Quad Studios!!!!

To this day, it remains a favorite in my song writing history!
Fun Fact there were two versions of this song.

Karen went in the studio and “Clarked It!” but the label wanted a smoother more laid in the cut version so it had a more mainstream feel and @donaldlawrence was brought in to produce her vocals and pulled this version out of her.
What you hear on this record today is a combination of three very specific skill sets on one song!
You hear me on those backgrounds on all parts with Karen layered on top.
I’m a tenor in real life! Lol
Walking down memory lane has been a lot of fun.
I am moving into my #MasterTeacher era. Join me if you dare…
