Stan Verrett: A New Orleans Success Story 💜💛

🏠 The Louisiana Foundation: A proud St. Augustine Purple Knight, Stan took his New Orleans roots to Howard University, graduating in 1989.

📺 The National Stage: After working in local television and radio, including WDSU in his hometown, he joined ESPN in 2000. In 2009, he helped launch SportsCenter from Los Angeles alongside Neil Everett, becoming a familiar face during his 25-year ESPN career.

⚜️ The Homecoming: In 2025, the Saints named him host of their new digital pregame show. A national career came full circle with his hometown team.

From the Purple Knights to the national spotlight, Stan’s story carries Louisiana pride.

Last night the Social Impact Fund presented the first-ever Social Impact Summit x Sport, powered by Nike.

The inaugural event celebrated the intersection of sport and impact and discussed the future of youth sport; it was held at the newly-opened Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

“Sport is one of the most meaningful levers of change we have. “It builds healthier kids, stronger leaders, and more connected communities,” said Craig Cichy, Executive Director, Social Impact Fund in his opening remarks. “The Social Impact Summit x Sport brings together the athletes, coaches, and culture-makers who define that impact every day to focus on what matters most: the future of youth sport.”

The evening featured panelists and moderators including: Baron Davis, Scout Bassett, Diana Cutaia, Stan Verrett, Jimmy Kim, Azzi Fudd, Ali Riley and Becki Tweed.

Nike’s Vanessa Garcia-Brito and Olympic Gold Medalist Joan Benoit-Samuelson kicked off the evening with a fireside chat and Derek Fisher presented the @la84foundation with the Excellence in Sport Impact Award, accepted by President and CEO, Renata Simril.

All Stan Verrett wanted for his birthday AND Christmas? Saints season tickets. 😂🖤💛

For $100, his parents had both gifts covered, and Stan was happy with his tickets, a pair of socks and enough money for a Superdog and a Coke. Even through all the losing, his love for the Saints never went anywhere.

Kobe Bryant’s final game was a night Stan Verrett knew he had to see in person. 💜💛

Stan remembers watching Kobe score 60 as the entire arena seemed to will every shot into the basket, and later witnessing how Southern California mourned his tragic passing. For him, both moments reinforced just how deeply sports can connect an athlete to a community.
