@staraceband days <3

Last month, I ventured down to Brazil to record a duo project with my dear friend & producer @christiandias.music . My heart is overflowing after two weeks of snuggling into the beautiful life of Chris and his partner @gabicarcaioli , drinking endless cups of Gabi’s delicious coffee, grooving and giggling with @loddo___ , listening to to the lush sounds of @wolfestudio.rj , eating juicy slices of Brazilian barbecue around the outdoor kitchen of @diasju and @9216anna , and singing along with the @staraceband family band. I saw hummingbirds everywhere (the Portuguese word is beija flor, or “flower kiss”) - I ate the sweetest fruits - and I listened more than I spoke, since my Portuguese is still rudimentary at best.

At the end of every recording day, Angelo’s wife and 2-year-old daughter would join us in the studio - I loved all squeezing into the control room and hearing the day’s work through a child’s mind. Afterwards we’d go into town, dancing in the bars and the streets to the sweet sounds of samba and choro and Brazilian jazz. I was reminded that music is pure love, an expression of culture and emotion that supersedes age and status. It made me fall in love with music and with living all over again.

Words can’t express how grateful I am to know and to collaborate with Chris. We’ll be releasing our record in the near-ish future, and I’m so excited to share it, but mostly I’m just really, really thankful that we got to make it.
