It's wheelgun Wednesday friends! Today is a new entry. This 627 Pro found its way into my hands. These 8 round rotary assault cannons really tickle my fancy. I'd long been interested in a 627, however the 5" variant doesn't do it for me the way a 4" does. I'm not sure where the grip/stock situation is going to end up, however for now these JM stocks will do just fine.

I'm using my ammo based on a 148gr SWC from Rim Rock. It should come as no surprise 5 Star DC loaders work just as well as with my 327. The first target is my first cylinder through it at 10 yards. It definitely made me pretty happy. I decided I needed a rep of my drill, Hole in One. The rules for the drill: start at 3 yards with a blank target, ideally an index card. Fire two rounds. Provided they are touching step back to 4 and fire another. Repeat this process stepping back 1 yard each time until you fire a round which doesn't touch the existing hole you've created. I managed to match my best ever rep, making it to 18 yards before I tossed one out of the group! Hell yeah.

Do you like unloaded starts?

This stage made you go to allllll the spots to shoot the targets and even some stopping in between.

Load development

Components:
168gr Axe Spizter
Norma 202 powder
Starline brass
White River LRP

Ending up with very full cases. I must admit, I was skeptical if this combination will yield a good result. And it did....0.19MoA group at 100 yards. Sure, it was only 3 shots, but as a hunter, I am looking for repeatable groups. With such low SD numbers, I am keen to stretch this 308 out beyond 600 yards. Next season maybe. Very happy with this unexpected result.

Load development

Components:
168gr Axe Spizter
Vithavouri N540
Starline brass
White River LRP

Fine-tuned the previous velocity readings using GRT and confirmed the node. With such low SDs and similar point of impact, this combination can work.

Now to do regular small group testing for hunting.

The horses wear EARPRO either plugs or a mask, we use 2 single action 45 Colt revolvers loaded with black powder blanks that are spectator safe (no one wants to catch a 200gr piece of lead) I promise you it’s not easy we all practice ALOT! There are over 100 different courses the horses aren’t on auto pilot. It IS the most fun thing you can do one horseback! #cowboymountedshooting #imissalot #shootinandscootin
