We love showcasing the words of love and appreciation we receive from librarians at schools and public libraries.

Here's one from Oregon.

Thank you Lisa!

How can we be of service in YOUR school, corporate or library community this fall?

We're now booking keynotes, school assemblies, writing workshops, parent engagement seminars and library programs for children and teens.... for Hispanic Heritage Month and Veterans Day.

IMPORTANT ASK:

Do you have a few hours to spare this Saturday March 14 to volunteer in the, Sun Gallery and Makerspace ? AM or PM?

DM me, and I'll forward your info to our new interim P/T Gallery Manager, Melissa.

We are currently preparing for over 1,000 HUSD kids for our upcoming field trips in the space. The gallery is almost complete, but the Makerspace needs some TLC!

This project is part of the "Many Hands One Masterpiece" pilot initiative that is paying for over 1,000 Title 1 2nd grader HUSD school students to come to the gallery for a field trip and a docent led art project in the Art/Maker space (their buses are included for this project!)

This project has been fueled by financial support from community members, including other non profits and local businesses that have come together to make sure that art is accessible to all, to encourage community building, and make change happen through art based actions and initiatives.

Tasks involve inventory, cleaning, preparing tables and art supplies, and/or fixing some awnings that came down in a recent storm in the courtyard, and lightweight moving some mobile furniture in the space.

The gallery is a 501c3 non profit serving Hayward for over 60 years. Due to the budget shortfalls from our normal grant sources, the gallery has been currently operating on volunteers only, without any operational funding.

Valerie Caveglia/Images in Wood , President of the Hayward’s Education Foundation, and Dorsi Diaz, Sun Gallerys current Board President, have been the catalyst for this initiative, in the works since last year, that is now coming to fruition!

Please "Join our Many Hands!"

An important FYI: Without this pilot program this year, there would not be a 35th Annual Children's Book Illustrator Exhibit happening right now, or 1,000s of students and community enjoying free access to Haywards very own gallery, art studio and makerspace, for this once in a lifetime field trip experience.

YOUR support is making this happen!

@jfranciscozermenoc @starrgaza @dorsidiaz @haywardunified

Will we see you today at Hayward Executive Airport for our annual Open House, sponsored by @cityofhayward ?

It's already looking beautiful and we're between the airplanes and the tower; @civilairpatrol @cawgcap @haywardlibrary and @tainational are all here and so much more.

@baycities99s @waisanfrancisco of @womeninaviation and #captainmama are all together... we'll be engaging with you... bilingually.

Look for my flight suits flapping in the breeze, ready for children to see themselves as future aviators!

Team #CaptainMama was blessed to be one of two featured bilingual authors at a truly unique and wonderful family reading night event with superhero theme on Friday evening.

Joined by illustrator Linda Lens (@starrgaza) we presented:

HOW we became author and illustrator
WHAT it's like to be and author and an illustrator
WHAT was school like for you?

We got kids jazzed about writing, creating, and yes ... #aviation.

And now, hundreds more local kids and their families know about the @eaa Young Eagles flight orientation program at our #Hayward Executive Airport!

Good day meeting local author entrepreneur @minalearnschinese who also created her bilingual book publishing company! Follow her and see her beautiful literature!

How can we be of service in YOUR school community?

We've got #airshows scheduled in #oklahoma and #texas next month so let us know ASAP!

My favorite thing about today's Author and Illustrator Fair at Orion School in Redwood City was spending time with #CaptainMama series illustrator Linda Lens (@starrgaza.)

We presented a workshop on the collaborative process we've used to create the three books in series - Linda showed her storyboard and character development work; I shared various phases of the manuscript, the translation revisions, and how we work with Linda's art, the designer @suzileeschellcreative to create the final literature product.

Our audience was fully engaged and inquisitive - it was lovely.

Please let us know how we can serve YOUR school community - together!

Please join us on Saturday, August 12, for a very special day! (1-4 pm)

The Sun Gallery Makerspace & renovated Courtyard will be revealed along with a special ribbon cutting! 🎀 There will be live demos of our new Makerspace equipment, plus art fun for kids and adults. 🖼🎨🦾

Light snacks 🍫 and beverages will be served, and we will also have a food truck on hand for lunch, and live music 🎶 by local musicians and performers.

The "Art Meets Tech" Artists Reception will be at the same time so we welcome you to come and browse the work, and speak with artists, creators, and makers in the main Gallery, maker space, and courtyard.

This is a formal/informal gathering, so please come as you are! If you'd like to dress in Steampunk, that would be amazing, and you can take a pic with #steampunkstan , our resident Octopus named Stan 🐙, painted by our fearless leader and Board President Carla Dozier!

There are no rules except to have fun, and have some extra fun, so please bring your whole family. We will also have fun arts and crafts for the children. 🥳🎊🎉

👏👏👏We want to make a 📣HUGE SHOUTOUT to the City of Hayward and Sector 6 community that made this project possible! The community voted for us, and made it possible for us to receive the People's Budget Grant Award to build this Makerspace and renovate our tired courtyard.

⛱️We have awesome new shade, new seating, and tables along with a few other surprises along the way, especially in the new Makerspace! The Hayward Makers & Techies have rocked this space and definitely breathed some new life into our now hybrid art studio/makerspace. We have something for everyone!

Don't miss this event, it's for you HAYWARD!

Sincerely and always yours,
the Staff and Board of Directors at the Sun Gallery
