Finally, UGC NET in Statistics from June 2026 onwards!

A long-awaited moment has arrived — Statistics is now officially included as a subject in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) starting June 2026.

🙏 This achievement would not have been possible without the continuous efforts of the entire statistics fraternity.
Heartfelt thanks to all members whose hard work turned this long-pending demand into reality.

🙏 Thank You UGC, Thank You MHRD, and Thank You Government of India for this important and progressive step.

🎉 Congratulations to all Statistics aspirants!
This opens new doors for academic and career opportunities in the field of Statistics.

📘 The syllabus for Statistics is now available online:

Choosing 0.05 as the threshold causes many, if not most, of the problems associated with traditional NHST.

Fisher, Neyman, Pearson (and most of the rest of the world) considered an arbitrary statistical threshold to be a bad idea but they did not reject a considered significance threshold.

So, while not all researchers are prepared to abandon the concept of statistical significance, there is a consensus that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ rejection threshold should be abandoned.

As part of the UGC-approved Short-Term Programme on Statistical Tools in Research (Online), organized by UGC-MMTTC and Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, and coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) D. P. Raykundaliya, Head, Department of Statistics, Sardar Patel University, conducted during 08–14 December 2025, Lecture 3 on Day 3 was delivered by Prof. J. M. Divecha.

Prof. Divecha conducted a clear and conceptually strong session on “Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Post Hoc Tests.” The lecture emphasized the importance of ANOVA in comparing multiple group means and explained how post hoc tests help identify specific group differences following a significant ANOVA result.

The session covered key aspects such as:
• concept and assumptions of ANOVA,
• different types of ANOVA,
• role and interpretation of post hoc tests, and
• applications of ANOVA in research studies.

The session witnessed active participation of around 60 participants, making it highly interactive and insightful. The lecture strengthened participants’ understanding of group comparison techniques and enhanced their ability to draw meaningful conclusions from experimental data.

We sincerely thank Prof. J. M. Divecha for delivering an informative and enriching session.

📊 Grateful, Inspired & Excited!

On 6th June 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to present at the UNIASM Symposium held at Amarylis Hotel, Blantyre, under the theme:
"Navigating Economic Uncertainty: The Power of Actuarial, Mathematical & Statistical Innovations."

🎤 My presentation — "Modelling Economic Shocks Using Time Series Models – A Statistical Approach to Forecasting and Risk Management" — explored how ARIMA and GARCH models can help improve economic decision-making by forecasting Malawi’s GDP under uncertainty.

💡 Key Takeaways:

Volatility matters — traditional models often miss it.

GARCH models enhance GDP forecasting by narrowing confidence intervals and better capturing real-world fluctuations.

Statistics isn't just theory — it's a powerful tool for evidence-based policy and sustainable development.

🙏 I sincerely thank my supervisor Dr. Fiskani Kondowe, my mentors, and the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Malawi, for guiding me throughout this journey.

🔍 "In a world full of data, the real power lies not just in collecting it — but in understanding what it truly means."

💬 Let’s connect! I’m open to collaborations in data science, forecasting, and policy modeling.
