You’ll want to come to The First Cut Horror Film Festival 2026 on October 10th so as not to miss Prey for Us from filmmaker Zoe Kerr! @iamzoekerr is a director and writer based in Los Angeles. Her writing and direction has been recognized by the Sundance Institute, Slamdance Screenplay Competition, the Austin Film Festival, Launch Pad, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Arts Residency, and the Dramatists Guild, among others. Synopsis of @preyforustheseries: After a house party, a woman leaves with a charming stranger, only to share unsettling truths that shatter their perceptions of each other. Director Statement: I first wrote PREY FOR US in 2020, inspired by my fascination with true crime. I wondered why female serial killers are rarely featured in popular media, even though they exist and are just as compelling as their male counterparts. This led me to write a pilot about a serial killer named Heidi, who targets men she deems worthless and dangerous in her small town of Bronson, Minnesota. Despite my enthusiasm for the idea, I struggled to develop the story as I envisioned. When I revisited the project in 2022, I found myself relating to Heidi’s anger in a deeper and more profound way in a post-Covid world. I shared the next draft with an all-female writer’s group, bracing for negative feedback. Instead, I received empathy for Heidi. Beneath her anger, much of which stems from her own father’s abuse, Heidi is deeply hurt. She understands her actions are wrong but finds solace in them as a way of regaining control. PREY FOR US explores feminine rage and what it means to embrace and express this anger unapologetically, in a way that is equally funny and thrilling. #firstcutfilmfest2026 #horrorfilm #horrorfilmfest
