𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 — 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦

The whole album is written like a work of art. From the names and order of the songs to the lyrics, the crescendos and decrescendos, and those dramatic, emo vocals... they can make a dead man at sea have feelings. 💀🖤

IMO the artwork fits this album's sound perfectly. I love the bright red anatomical heart floating out at sea under that strange starry sky. I can't forget to mention that the marbled ocean blue vinyl looks like swirling water when you hold it up to the light. 💙

This atmospheric emo album is an absolute must have in your collection. A great one from my earlier-life years. 𝗜𝗬𝗞𝗬𝗞.

50 for 50 #2: my top 50 shows experienced of all time! Follow the link to the blog post and playlist (in multiple formats). Here are 19 albums for those 50 artists and shows.

I’ll highlight one of the shows here— for a band, song, and album not represented in the playlist as it is not on streaming. I’m also proud of myself for even finding the exact date and location through Newspaper.com research.

One of my favorite show memories has always been seeing Blindside in a small, sweaty, club in Orlando. This was before they got big and I remember the energy from the room and the low ceiling. However, I could never remember even what year it was (I assumed 2000 but was also open to early-2002 before “Silence” was released) and I didn’t have a clue what venue. But then I found it as it is in the Orlando Sentinel archives.

Squad Five-O was actually the headliner, and I am pretty sure I left halfway through their set. And it was $5!

𝗣𝗢𝗣 𝗨𝗡𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪𝗡 — 𝗜𝗙 𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗖 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗦, 𝗧𝗥𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗚𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔 🖤

This album color is the 𝗗𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 variant. It's clear vinyl with purple marble, limited to only 200 copies **blows and buffs knuckles** pretty fancy if you ask me... It almost looks like little wisps of purple ink floating through the record. The other colors are called Subtraction, Addition and Multiplication. Hmmm is there a theme? 🤔

Released in 1999, this is a records from the [epic] era of emo where everything was melodic, emotional (duh) and just a little weird. THREE GUITARS help create Pop Unknown's dreamy atmospheric sound. Deep Elm called it “Dreamo,” and honestly, that pretty much nails it. Even the artwork looks exactly like this album sounds. Like somebody was trying to solve their feelings with math.

Another one from my earlier-life years. 𝗜𝗬𝗞𝗬𝗞. 🖤

25+ years after its original release, @mij.band – The Radio Goodnight is back.

Recorded in 1999 with A.J. Mogis in Lincoln, Nebraska, the album became M.I.J.’s final record—capturing the band attheir most melodic, atmospheric, and emotionally direct.

For the 2026 reissue, the original master tapes were rediscovered and remastered by Dan Coutant at @srmastering . Available on limited 180g colored vinyl, CD, and cassette for the first time.

We’ve also created a new M.I.J. shirt design to celebrate the reissue. And for Bandcamp Friday today, a special vinyl variant is available exclusively through @bandcamp.

Artwork adapted from the original scans by Simon Tripcony @onetricpony.

The Reputation - “The Reputation” (2002 release reissued on vinyl in 2026)

In 2000 I was a member of a mix-tape club and one of the tapes I still have and reference to this day was called “Soundboard” (name and packaging assembled out of magazine clippings)—I wish I knew who made it and sent it to me. It contained the song “Detroit Star-lite” from the band Sarge, who I was hearing for the first time. Despite loving it, I never heard any more Sarge, I assume because by then they had broken up.

In 2002 I lived in Orlando for about six months. I absolutely hated it except for the shows I went to at The Social and my visits to Park Ave CDs. I wasn’t buying much music at the time as I was dirt poor, but I remember one visit to Park Ave where I was determined to get something new that I had never heard before. I found The Reputation, assumed it said something like “members of Sarge” or something like that, and bought this album. “The Stars of Amateur Hour” and “The Uselessness Of Friends” stuck with me for a long time and made me an Elizabeth Elmore fan for life (and if I need a lawyer I might look her up!). When I saw that Thirty Something Records was reissuing The Reputation, it was an immediate purchase through Steadfast.
