🎧 RECORDS THAT INSPIRE US 🎧

Lovebirds feat. Stee Downes – Want You In My Soul
(Winding Road Records, 2011)

Originally released in 2011 on Winding Road Records.

Want You In My Soul pairs a warm, unhurried house groove with shimmering synths, disco-leaning percussion and Stee Downes’ unmistakably soulful vocal. There’s a real softness to the production, allowing the melody and vocal to breathe while the groove quietly keeps everything moving underneath.

❔️ Why we chose it.

There’s something effortless about the way the vocal sits within the record. Stee Downes brings so much feeling to it, while Lovebirds keeps the production spacious and warm rather than overcrowding the song.

❔️ What makes it timeless.

It never needed a huge drop or an aggressive groove to make an impact. The combination of songwriting, atmosphere and that instantly recognisable vocal has given it a quality that still feels special years later.

❔️ How it inspires us.

It shows how powerful restraint can be in house music. A strong vocal, carefully chosen sounds and enough room for each element to breathe can create something far more memorable than simply filling every space.

All the quality you’d expect from the master. On the flip, the dubs – starting with a punchy dancefloor-friendly Kneedeep dub, and closing things off with the beautiful underwater vibes of Lovebirds’ own ‘Ocean Dub’.

The man whose voice captured a generation… everyone knows his club anthem “Want you in my soul” with Lovebirds.

This still demonstrates the importance of live vocalists and the dance music world isn’t just about DJs.

No singer - No popular release…
No popular release… No DJ

Big love bro to @steedownes…. Keep up the good work

2011 год.
Lovebirds — Sebastian Doering и Daniel Klein — делают инструментальный трек Polylove. Позже к нему добавляется вокал @steedownes , и так появляется Want You In My Soul.

One of the most incredibly unique moments I have ever experienced behind the decks and one I genuinely don’t think will ever be matched.

I knew before the set that it had the potential to be special. I never imagined it was going to be this special.

I’d put some serious thought and effort into planning the music for those moments, but nothing could prepare me for how it actually unfolded.

Around 35 minutes.

From just before the eclipse, when at one point it looked like we might not even get to see it...

To the total eclipse.

To the sun slowly starting to return.

And then into the most magical Ibiza sunset, with the moon still partially shadowing the sun.

Those 35 minutes behind the decks on August 12th will stay with me forever.

No matter what happens next with DJing, no matter what venues I play or what I go on to achieve, this will always be one of those standout moments that I will hold very close.

The full set was recorded in both video and audio and I’ll be sharing that soon.

But first, across these slides, I wanted to share the tracks I selected for that 35-minute journey, in the exact order I played them.

I’d genuinely love to know what you think of the selection.

And if you had been behind the decks for those 35 minutes...

What would you have played?
