Had a lovely time playing music with Ira Levy and Pam McCarthy (@pjdrummer16) at Steel String Brewery (@steelstringbrewery) as part of the Carrboro Songwriters’ Festival! This song is called “The Place You Held Dear,” and honestly, I was a bit nervous about this one, as it’s a newer song in our lineup! But I had so much fun singing it that I had to share it, even with our auxiliary percussion of “cute pug dog barking” in the first minute or so 🙃 Thanks to Steel String and the festival crew for having us out! And if you like the song, make sure you come out to my recital (Nov 8, 1:30 pm, UNCG Tew Hall) to hear it with very different instrumentation! #singersongwriter #livemusic #originalsong

At the Carrboro Songwriter’s Festival today at Steel String Brewery, Gretchen asked me while onstage about my songwriting philosophy and why I wrote the songs that I wrote. Here’s my attempt to recreate my reply. Thank you @steelstringbrewery and @stickymazemusic for hosting and @realericsommer for pulling it all together. Music in background is from a set at the most excellent @bullhorndurham festival held the day before with master percussionist @kenmoshesh and trombone wizard @dannygrewen
