So many new friends, experiences, musical challenges, the best food, beautiful shows AND my art is back! Such an honour to be part of this festival this year. Played banjo for @lambchopisaband , guitar with @_beirutband_ , pulled strings with @bradbarr216 , did a solo show, sang with @efterklang , did another Honky Tonk hosted by @bergmanama , did drawings for @jess_dess and @sonyahoferlanz new pop-up and just a lot more! @peoplefestivalberlin 2026 was an absolute hoot! I didn’t take many videos but managed to find a nice collection. A massive thank you to Tom and Nadine at the @michelbergerhotel and @hicksonmary and team for their tireless work! X ps: I got to hang with my triple B @marcushamblett for a whole week which was a real plus!

It starts on a boat, as good things often do. I stand at the front to get my bearings. Find my footing. Breathe. The engines hum to life and spin us 360 degrees before we set off. This is how I will find myself. Back to front, in the best way possible.

We all hum with life too. Vibrate. Our differing tones and frequencies find harmony beyond understanding. We reverberate along the Spree and into Funkhaus, where we gather into a drone choir of almost 200 PEOPLE. We begin on the same note, move away from it with freedom and come back again. We synchronise our vibrations. Raise them. We do understand after all.

The first rehearsal I experience is the Guitar Orchestra, in Saal 1. Twenty or so guitarists conducted by Adrian Utley. ‘What I’d like to hear, if you’re into it, is for you all to play as loudly and freely as you can.’

What comes next is how I imagine the universe would sound, if we were able to hear it. It feels like everything in existence is being compressed into this room, into me. The drone continues, grows, falls.

Adrian offers more gentle instruction. Maybe one or two of them could hold a single note, maybe the others could go harder and louder, for no other reason than it might sound cool.

‘Ok, let’s cut to noise on four.’

It is 11:55 am on Monday morning, and we are here for the week.

‘Three.’

My heart and my bones and my whole self are shaken and rattling, in the best way possible.

‘Two.’

I wonder how many times I will write the words ‘my heart is so full I don’t know if I can take it.’

‘One.’

There’s only one way to find out.

So excited to have David Murphy at the intimate and historic setting of the Hole in the Wall, performing music from his critically-acclaimed album ‘Cuimhne Ghlinn: Explorations in Irish Music for Pedal Steel Guitar’. His all-instrumental record recasts ancient Irish harp tunes and historic airs into the 21st century with the swelling, expressive and mournful sounds of this evocative and ever-mysterious instrument.
