On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Jones Family Christmas on @stanaustralia 🎄
The cast were outstanding. The crew were magical. The writer was drunk.

Here at Stellar, we’re all about celebrating Australian stories and the incredible local talent behind them 🇦🇺🎬

If you’re looking for something festive to watch while wrapping presents or getting into the Christmas spirit, here are some of our favourites:
🎄A Savage Christmas - directed by last year’s much loved Stellar judge Mads Dyer, starring the brilliant Darren Gilshenan
🎄 Jones Family Christmas - directed by another of our amazing past Stellar judges, Stef Smith and staring Heather Mitchell
🎄 Christmess – also featuring the ever-talented Darren Gilshenan and Aaron Glenane (Astronots)
🎄 A Sunburnt Christmas - with Daniel Henshall and Lena Nankivell, our Rising Star Best Performance winner (Myth)

And if, like us, you can’t get enough of Darren Gilshenan or Aussie Christmas laughs, add A Moody Christmas to your festive list. It’s an annual tradition in our house and an absolute favourite 🧡

So this year, celebrate Australian talent, support our local storytellers and creatives and give the gift of cinema by buying tickets to Stellar 2026 - supporting both our event and Australia’s thriving television and film industry 🎬

🎟️ Tickets available now at stellarshortfilmfestival.com.au

From foam pipe insulation to full film set 🎬🧵

For this @momentumenergy spot (produced by @photoplayfilms and directed by Stef Smith), I built a whole family of puppet arms - sleeved, rodded and fully noodly.

Foam pipe insulation + fleece + experimentation.
Machine stitched where possible, hand-sewn for the long flexible arms (they needed strength and flow).

Each version had a job:
• Sleeve for close control
• Rod for wide shots
• Extra-long flexible “noodles” for full stretch across the bench

Filmed inside a real house - and watching a living room transform into a cupcake shop (with real cupcakes!) was pure movie magic.

Working with the cast and crew was a brilliant joint challenge - team timing, energy and generosity - everything you hope for when you’re threading arms through kitchen gaps.

On set I was assistant puppeteer and resident puppet doctor/wrangler alongside the wonderful Fiona Gentle. Laundry green room. Full repair kit. Tape, pins, sewing kit - you never know what will be needed.

Huge thanks to Stef and the Photoplay team.
