The Banana Cabaret The end of an era Dave Vickers is retiring and a rightly standing ovation for him. What a comedy club this was I played the Banana many many times and was pretty much always a fantastic place to be funny. In its heyday there was an upstairs and downstairs room, and if timed properly you could dash to Battersea Jongleurs and do the gigs there. An added bonus to the Banana is that Dave paid in CASH, and a big wad of cash it was. The Banana had a balcony and it was here that I was heckled with a brutal one which changed the way I cut my hair... in fact I started shaving my head afterwards. As I was walking onto the stage the spotlight hit the top of my thinning hair and someone on the balcony looking downwards shouted out just three words, 'shave it off'

The next Legendary Try Out Night is on Thursday 5th MARCH and is hosted by JEREMY O'DONNELL. It's only £6 advance to see up to 14 acts. Then there's a STUNNING comedy show on Saturday 7th MARCH featuring MARK THOMAS, STEFANO PAOLINI, ALAN FRANCIS, MAD RON, MARTIN DURCHOV and MICHAEL LEGGE as MC. Don't forget Crouch End Jazz on Sunday afternoons (4-7pm). Hope to see you soon, again or for the first time.
