Deftones - Lifter

Watch me with your eyes
Been giving God a bit of fire
I want to be just like you
Then I'd be cool, maybe not, but
We lift our eyes, big surprise
Kiss me goodbye, whore
Without you being here
I'll be giving fear a bit more
I wish I could feel like you
When I fuck like you, a bit sore, but
We lift our eyes, big surprise
Kiss me goodbye, and then you
Burn all that you worked for
Every knuckle wiped into her
I know we're fucking monsters
I will never get what I want
This gift of mine
Resing, restring, unwind
My eyes are closed
A part of me gets pissed, a part of me gets sore
And then she burns all that you worked for
Every knuckle wiped into her
I know we're fucking monsters
I will never get what I want
A part of me gets sick, a part of me gets sore
Sick, sore

One love for Chi.

Deftones - Mein (Guitar Cover)

“Mein” is a track by the American alternative metal band Deftones, released on March 13, 2007, as the second single from their fifth studio album, Saturday Night Wrist.

The song famously features Serj Tankian, the lead vocalist of System of a Down, who provides guest vocals during the bridge and climax. It also holds significance as the final Deftones single recorded with their original bassist, Chi Cheng, before his tragic car crash in 2008 and subsequent passing in 2013.

🎸 Bands That Built Me: Deftones — Koi No Yokan

On August 18, 1996, I made the trip to Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, to see White Zombie supporting Astro-Creep: 2000 and Pantera supporting The Great Southern Trendkill at the Coca-Cola Star Lake Amphitheatre.

What I didn’t know was that there was a third band opening the show.

The second they started playing, I remember thinking to myself, Who are these guys? They are freaking awesome!

That band was Deftones.

At the time, I had never heard of them. They had only released their debut album, Adrenaline, and I had absolutely no idea that this chance discovery would eventually become one of the most meaningful musical connections of my life.

In early 2012, we learned that my mother had cancer. On November 12 of that year, just six days before her birthday, Deftones released Koi No Yokan, a Japanese phrase that translates roughly to “premonition of love.”

Whenever I hear a song from that album, I’m transported back to those days. Driving my mom from one appointment to another. The conversations, the uncertainty, and all the moments I wish I could have back.

But most of all, I remember the drives to and from the hospice home where she spent her final days.

❤️ “Entombed” has always been the song that hits me the hardest.

The opening line, “From the day you arrived, I’ve remained by your side,” reminds me of my mother and the unwavering love, support, and care she gave me throughout my life.

The song’s imagery of being held, cherished, and kept safe in a quiet place away from the rest of the world feels especially meaningful to me. I hear it and think about the kind of love that never really leaves you, even when the person is no longer here.

Mom, I miss you. ❤️
