Η Stella Ellis @stellaellis ήταν μία από αυτούς. Μούσα του Thierry Mugler, μοντέλο του Jean Paul Gaultier, φωτογραφήθηκε στο εμβληματικό SEX της Madonna και πήρε μέρος στο ιστορικό Too Funky του George Michael, η Stella υπήρξε μία από τις προσωπικότητες που απέδειξαν ότι η αυθεντικότητα μπορεί να είναι πιο ισχυρή από οποιοδήποτε στερεότυπο. So fabulous - and managng that cape and the DOG! So much admiration!
As I worked on my documentary (while doing a Masters degree in my mid-60s), I relfected a lot about Jean Paul Gaultier and for that matter Manfred Thierry Mugler. They both made space for different kinds of beauty.
They were so far ahead of their time in so many ways, I am not entirely sure we have caught up to them even yet. That's my opinion anyway - I'm not prepared to die on that hill but I do believe their innovation was radical. It was a remarkable gift to witness what they were trying to do in real time - and to be able to talk to them about it!
Of course, we didn't have politically correct language for all of this then - so here we see Jean Paul struggling to find the right words to explain why Stella was on his catwalk.

“Body as Art”

Trompe d’œil effect in Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 1992 show “Elegance Parade.” Gaultier had bodies painted onto the backs of tailored suits for men and women for the Spring show. It’s a whimsical take that embodies the upcoming @metcostumeinstitute theme for the upcoming show.
