A little look back at @dom_disain_on_moes ✨ On 28 September, our Mild Librarian backpacks took the runway @tallinndesignfestival DOM fashion show. First made in 2016, these backpacks have been part of everyday life for nearly a decade. And that’s exactly what we love about good design. It’s not about seasons or trends, but about the years spent together, the things we carry, and the stories that gather along the way. Most of the backpacks on the runway came straight from our community. Seeing so many backpacks together was a beautiful reminder that a bag’s story doesn’t end when it leaves our studio. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who lent us a backpack, to the models, photographers and the entire show team, and to @tallinndesignfestival for bringing us together 🫶🏼 Photos by Sander Halliste, Richard Gabriel Moritz and Liis Ambos.

Still a little surprised — and very proud: our studio has received the BRUNO Design Award. Designed by @stellarunnel and @hoohintsanen, this bag has been years in the making. Crafted from Texon, it is lightweight yet strong, with adjustable, removable straps and a washable body. Its pattern uses the entire material sheet, creating a zero-waste bag body. It is also available in a 100% vegan version. We have opened pre-orders. Order now and your cellulose-fibre bag will arrive in time for Christmas. Big thanks to the international jury for the recognition, and to @eesti_disainerite_liit and @estonian.design.centre for nudging designers to keep developing. Congratulations to fellow finalists @bmorstudio and @lentsius, and to all the other winners of the Estonian Design Awards!

Thrilled to share that the Sunlit jewellery series made it to the Estonian Design Awards finals, receiving an honorable mention for the BRUNO Product Design Award in the Lifestyle category! 🏆 Developing this series of golden jewellery from industrial materials has been a goal of mine for years and what an interesting process it has been. An intense weekend in Tallinn, with several photography events happening at once. @fototallinnfair focused on the Nordic and Baltic scene, bringing together artists and galleries from the region. It offered a good overview of contemporary Baltic photography and showed how the medium has moved beyond the traditional print into objects and installations. Three days of panel discussions, artist meetings and special exhibition tours. It’s hard to give an overview of this event - there was just too much going on. @fotografiska.tallinn was on the programme specifically for Latvian photographer Inta Ruka, who has spent decades photographing people in eastern Latvia and returning to them over time. Her portraits are closely connected to the people and places she photographs. Just one day earlier, Fotografiska had opened an exhibition of Vivian Maier @vivianmaierarchive, and the visual connection was striking: both used a Rolleiflex and square black-and-white photography, but in very different ways. Ruka builds relationships with her subjects, while Maier seems to spy on the street, remaining almost invisible to both her subjects and, for most of her life, the art world. Curated by Anne Morin, the Maier exhibition goes beyond the familiar “unknown photographer” story and looks through her enormous archive for less familiar sides of her work and life. Must visit!
