Dusk creates a similar shifting cycle, blurring the boundaries between an unlit world and spectral dream-images. Lucchese materializes beauty in states of suspension and creates slumbering reflections of pleasure in metaphorical twilights.

Stephanie Lucchese’s debut New York exhibition, “Nuns fret not,” articulates the possibility of rest amid strangeness and transience, a form of reassurance in finding serenity in perpetual crepuscular liminality.

Lucchese is not concerned with things seen, for her works reveal a sense of stillness that refuses to surrender to norms—whether from human or nature’s creation—challenging the implied discomfort brought by thresholds of subconsciousness.

Lucchese expresses an in-between space within time, where the light of day dissolves into pale blue hues, and everything is swallowed by shadows, clouding the vision and causing a strange sense of longing for everything that is not there.

ABOUT THE ARTIST → Stephanie Lucchese (b 1991 São Paulo, Brazil, lives and works in Brooklyn, New York) focuses on volume, structure, and depth to create arrangements beyond traditional frameworks. Her images incorporate hedonistic themes inspired by gothic and decadent literature of the late 19th-century with sensual scenes of leisure, sexual expression, and macabre undertones. Drawing from the subconscious, Lucchese’s work resists fixed interpretations, presenting figures and spaces that shift between indulgence and decay. Solo exhibitions include Play, Yehudi Hollander-Pappi, São Paulo, Brazil (2025); Petisco, Projeto Vênus, São Paulo, Brazil (2023). Lucchese participated in group exhibitions internationally, including Supernova 1572, Yehudi Hollander-Pappi, São Paulo, Brazil (2025); Na Ponta da Língua, Espaço Alto, São Paulo, Brazil (2025); A Sense of Place, ABRI MARS, New York (2025); Pathways, Mama Projects, New York (2024); Soft Machine, IRL, New York (2021); GIFC NYC, The Hole, New York (2019), among others. Residencies include Cité internationale des arts, Paris, France (2026) and SVA Summer Residency, School of Visual Arts, New York (2019). Lucchese’s studies include Acompanhamento de Pintura: Painting and Critical Studies with artists Regina Parra and Rodolpho Parigi (2018); Art History Post-grad, Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), São Paulo, Brazil (2018); Bachelor of Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), São Paulo, Brazil (2017).

In Stephanie Lucchese’s paintings, recurring motifs evoke a quiet mystery, where concept remains beyond full comprehension. Drawn to specific shapes and objects, Lucchese transforms form into curiosity, allowing meaning to emerge rather than defining it.

“If anyone finds your simultaneity beyond his understanding, it is not for me to explain it. Let him be content to say, ‘What is this?’... So too let him rejoice and delight in finding you who are beyond discovery rather than fail to find you by supposing you to be discoverable.”

We’re in admiration of what @jackchasee and @sun__quest have built with @uhaul_gallery, and the rule-bending dialogue they’ve ignited in the New York art world. Thank you for including ABRI MARS among the galleries participating in this year’s edition of the U-Haul Art Fair. You gave us an opportunity to do something different, something necessary.

Congratulations to @stephanielucchese for creating a thought-provoking booth experience.

Stephanie Lucchese’s solo show will be on view at ABRI MARS (53a Stanton Street) until November 7th.

For the first time, artist Stephanie Lucchese is presenting her original graphite studies. Working entirely without photographic source material, these drawings represent the core of her visual language and working process, and are the sole reference points for her oil paintings.

A selection of the works on paper from Lucchese’s personal archive will be on view and offered exclusively this weekend at the ABRI MARS booth during the U-Haul Art Fair.

This installation is complemented by Lucchese’s solo show, “Nuns fret not,” which will be on view at ABRI MARS (53a Stanton Street, New York).

For our inaugural U-Haul Art Fair presentation, ABRI MARS presents “Private Practice,” a reconstruction of artist Stephanie Lucchese’s to-scale studio space totaling 10ft × 5ft.

This installation faithfully transposes Lucchese’s side-room studio within her Brooklyn apartment into the art fair booth. By recreating the exact, restrictive dimensions of her live-work apartment studio, the exhibition exposes the physical compromises required to produce large-scale paintings while living and working in NYC. The booth invites viewers to experience the narrow margins where Lucchese navigates her canvas, materials, modest furniture, and life, exposing the rarely witnessed invisible labor in a New York-based artist’s daily experience.

This installation is complemented by Lucchese’s solo show, “Nuns fret not,” which will be on view at ABRI MARS (53a Stanton Street, New York).
