Closing out the week at the 2026 Inc. 5000 Conference 🎤Alloy Co-Founder and Co-CEO @AnneFulenwider shared the stage with Nextdoor Co-Founder and Co-CEO @Niravtolia, on a panel moderated by @sarahdorothy_lynch. @annefulenwider spoke about how she and @monica.molenaar built Alloy into one of America’s fastest-growing companies, coming in at #61 on this year’s list. That growth is thanks to you, the women who trust us through perimenopause and menopause, and staying in control of our own path keeps our focus right where it belongs: on you. Thank you @incmagazine for the recognition!

Stephanie Mehta interviewed the CEO of Whatnot for her weekly column. The interview ended up changing how her own company operates.

At Whatnot, a live shopping app, employees cannot earn a meets-expectations review without logging hours selling on the platform and answering customer service tickets. Mehta had spent years asking for 100% completion on performance reviews at Mansueto Ventures without ever getting there. At Media Summit | SF 2026, she said she borrowed Whatnot's approach and tied her managers' ratings to it.

Studying how other companies operate is an underrated way to improve your own.

The companies paying to sponsor Inc. and Fast Company are also competing with them. Stephanie Mehta calls that co-opetition, and the Mansueto Ventures CEO has managed it for two decades.

Salesforce wants the same speakers her festivals want. American Express publishes the small-business advice her readers come to Inc. for. At Media Summit | SF 2026, Mehta named motive as the difference. Every one of those platforms is selling something, and her magazines are trying to help a founder grow a company.

A reader can tell which is which, and that is the whole margin.

Stephanie Mehta oversees 200 people at Mansueto Ventures, the publisher of Inc. and Fast Company. She also turns in a column every week.

Some of that is a habit she cannot shake. You can take the girl out of the newsroom, she said at Media Summit | SF 2026, but not the newsroom out of the girl. The larger effect lands on her newsroom. When the person at the top files every week, being too busy stops working as a reason for missing a deadline.

Standards travel further when the person setting them goes first.

Few companies still print in the tech media industry. Mansueto Ventures still is, and CEO Stephanie Mehta is clear the magazines are not there for the money.

Inc. and Fast Company keep a physical product while most of the brands competing for the same readers and advertisers have none. On sales calls, Mehta hands over copies as a calling card. At Media Summit | SF 2026, she said the tactile appeal of print still lands with certain clients.

Not every line on a media P&L has to make money to be worth funding.

Stephanie Mehta spent years in newsrooms and thought she had met every personality there is. Becoming CEO of Mansueto Ventures, which owns Inc. and Fast Company, proved otherwise.

Reading people turned out to be the easy half. Her revenue team and her marketers came to work for reasons her journalists never shared, and a department that runs on metrics cannot be led like a newsroom. At Media Summit | SF 2026, Mehta admitted she had fooled herself into thinking she had this handled.

Knowing someone's personality tells you very little about what they came for.

Another terrific event for The last Free Women last night at the JCC New York. Andrea Mitchell interviewed Diana Kapp and Rebecca Blumenstein, and then they brought up Marwa and Mursal Rahim, two of the subjects of the book. Then we had a great gathering at the Amsterdam Ale House. Just like Beacon post-show, but with Andrea for Gregg. :)

Thanks to the many, many friends who joined us, including a large Squirrel Hill crew and people from all walks of our lives, and to Stephanie Mehta and Cindi Leive for hosting such a banger of a party.

Get the book!

Silently struggling? Your bravest next step isn’t doing more.

I talk to women leaders every day. They’re struggling. But are you even surprised?

I loved this recent @fastcompany Company article by Stephanie Mehta @stephaniemehta that says it out loud.

Sixty percent of senior-level women are burning out right now. More than men.

A quarter of senior women aren’t raising their hands for promotions, because the flexibility to support their work and their life just isn’t there.

So they’re leaving. Last year, forty-two percent of women who walked away from the workforce did it because of flexibility and caregiving demands.

So I want to talk to the woman who looks like she has it all together.

You’re not struggling because something is wrong with you.

You’re exhausted from holding it all together inside a system that was never built for your REAL LIFE. And strict return-to-office policies and the dwindling support for women leaders in this political climate aren’t helping.

Your bravest next step isn’t doing more.

It’s telling one person the truth about what you want and need to support your goals.

So let me ask you this. If you told one person the truth about what you need this week, who would it be? And what would you say?
