🧤 KICK TWICE, DON’T GET STACKED! 🏈

One of the keys to playing elite press man is understanding when to kick step once versus twice. 👣

That second kick can be the difference between staying square and allowing the receiver to stack you vertically. Your first kick helps you gain ground and maintain leverage. Your second kick helps you stay in phase, keep your cushion, and avoid opening the gate too early and winning over the top with taking away the deep ball!

❌ Kick once and stop your feet, and you risk letting the receiver get on top of you.
✅ Kick twice with control, stay square, and keep your leverage!

Remember: Your feet set the tone. Your leverage controls the release. Your technique keeps you in the fight.

It’s not just about moving your feet — it’s about understanding the receiver’s release, your leverage, and the situation.

Study the game. Master your technique. Stay TECH STICKY. 🧤💯

🧠🏈 QUICK GAME vs. DROPBACK — KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!

Football is a game of recognition, anticipation, and understanding what the offense is trying to accomplish before the ball is even snapped.

As a DB, you can’t approach every play the same way. You have to understand the concept, recognize the situation, identify your keys, and adjust your technique accordingly. Quick game and dropback concepts require different levels of patience, timing, and discipline.

🎯 Don’t just react. Recognize, process, and execute.

This is a clip from one of my 1-on-1 Zoom film sessions where we’re breaking down the game beyond the physical side. The goal is to help you see the game differently and develop a higher football IQ.

🧠🏈 KEY 3️⃣ — 2️⃣ — 1️⃣ READS.
Understanding football is KEY. At the elite college and NFL level, this game is just as mental as it is physical. Your athleticism can get you in the door, but your football IQ is what allows you to stay on the field.
You have to know your ALIGNMENT, ASSIGNMENT, KEY & TECHNIQUE — then execute at a high level. 🎯
As a DB, your reads give you information. The more you understand what you’re looking at, the faster you can process, react, and play with confidence instead of guessing.
And remember: EVERY PLAY IS A NEW PLAY. Reset mentally, trust your preparation, and attack the next rep. Short memory, long game. 💯
Don’t just play football. STUDY IT. UNDERSTAND IT. MASTER IT.
That’s the difference between being athletic and being a complete football player.

🎯 READ THE HIP. CONTROL THE TEMPO.
Reading the near hip vs. the opposite hip is about understanding what the receiver is giving you and knowing how to react without guessing.
🚫 Stop being so sped up! When you rush, you give the receiver control of your feet, your leverage, and your timing.
✅ Stay patient.
👀 Read the right indicators.
🦶 Control your feet and tempo.
🧠 React with purpose, not panic.
The goal isn’t to move first. It’s to move RIGHT. Make the receiver show you something before you commit.

🧤 WHY DBS GET BEAT… AND HOW TO WIN WITH SPACE. 🏈

It’s not always about being faster than the receiver. Sometimes, it’s about understanding leverage, controlling your cushion, reading body language, and knowing WHEN to make your move. 🎯

Too many DBs panic when they have space to cover. They open their hips too early, lose their leverage, or let the receiver dictate the rep. The best DBs stay patient, trust their technique, and make the receiver earn every inch.

Remember: YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE EVERY PLAY — YOU HAVE TO WIN YOUR REP. Even when the ball doesn’t come your way. 🧤

This is what separates good DBs from elite DBs. It’s not just athleticism — it’s technique, discipline, and football IQ.

🧠 Learn the why behind every rep.
🏈 Master your technique.
🧤 STAY STICKY.

🏈 RECEIVERS REALLY ONLY HAVE 2 TYPES OF RELEASES… IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT. 👀🧤
1️⃣ SPEED RELEASE ⚡️ — The receiver is trying to win with speed, attacking your leverage and forcing you to respect the vertical threat.
2️⃣ TEMPO RELEASE 🧠 — The receiver is manipulating your timing, changing pace, using hesitation, and setting you up to react before they make their move.
Within those two categories, you’ll see different techniques — like a diamond release, where the receiver attacks your leverage and works to create an angle to get around you.
As a DB, your job is to recognize the intention behind the release, not just react to the movement. Read the legs, understand the leverage, recognize the tempo, and make the receiver show you what they’re trying to do.
Stop memorizing moves. Start understanding intentions. That’s how you become a smarter corner. 🔒
🧠 TechSticky Movement — Understand the game. Master the details.
