We're having an incredible time in our 'Unscripted' R&D produced in collaboration with @solar_bear_theatre

We're investigating three important questions
- What is the optimal process when making visual
theatre with a Deaf and hearing ensemble?
- What is the best way to work with a Deaf writer?
- What is the optimal process for translating texts of
different genres and rhythms?

We'll be releasing a short video addressing each
question (three in total) over the coming months!

Here are the amazing artists in the room with us (in

We're over the moon to announce that we have a new home at Graeae Theatre Company's HQ in London next year, as part of the Beyond programme funded by Arts Council England to support disabled artists and arts leaders. We'll still be based in Derby and Gateshead, and work one day a month in London from January 2022. We remain committed to our mission - to work creatively for social justice with marginalised communities and Shakespeare across regions and nations. 💜 #Beyond #WeShallNotBeRemoved #ACEsupported #LetsCreate #1623news

Description of photo. Outside Graeae HQ, a pavement and road in front. 6 arched windows on the ground floor, each with a letter filling it. The letters spell out Graeae - grey capital g, yellow capital r, green capital a, green capital e, red lower-case a in italic, green lower-case e in italic. The arches are made of orange bricks and the pillars supporting them are green. Trees with green leaves along the pavement. End of description.

A very happy birthday to 1623 associate Stephen Collins - a great actor, maker of theatre & video, and Deaf culture advocate. Here he is performing a bit of The Tempest in BSL last year, just after the theatres had to close. 💜 #BSL #DeafCulture #Tempest #1623people

Waking up this morning to Oliver Twist no longer being available to watch felt very very strange. A massive thank you to everyone who managed to see it in person last year or streamed it from their homes over the past four weeks. I am so so grateful that I got to work on this show, with the most amazing team and that this got to be my life for two years. I could not have wished for a better professional stage debut!

Massive, massive thank you to @albertandthelion, @leedsplayhouse & @rampsonthemoon 🤟🏻
