🏠 AUSTRALIA, MEET THE KERRIGANS! 🏠

Producers Michael Cassel and Working Dog have today revealed the actors who will bring Australia's most beloved family, the Kerrigans, to life in the world premiere stage adaptation of THE CASTLE, opening at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne from March 2027.

Leading the company as family patriarch Darryl Kerrigan, the devoted family man determined to protect his home against impossible odds, will be acclaimed stage and screen performer Justin Smith (Heartbreak High, The Artful Dodger, Wentworth). Joining him will be award-winning musical theatre star and Dancing with the Stars alumna Christie Whelan Browne (Muriel’s Wedding The Musical, Kimberly Akimbo, All About Eve) as the ever-supportive culinary queen Sal Kerrigan. Together, the pair will lead the Kerrigan household at the centre of this timeless Australian story.

Making his professional theatre debut, film and television actor Ed Oxenbould (Puberty Blues, Paper Planes, Wildlife) joins the cast as the Kerrigans’ youngest son and narrator Dale Kerrigan, AACTA Award-winning actor Joel Jackson (Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door, Mystery Road, Scrublands) as eldest son and model prisoner Wayne Kerrigan, recent WAAPA graduate Stephanie Graham as the beloved middle child and Sunshine TAFE certified hairdresser Tracey, and contemporary theatre performer Marcus McKenzie as bargain hunter and self-taught “ideas man” Steve Kerrigan.

Joining the Kerrigans’ extended family is Roman Delo (Bump, NCIS: Sydney, Ten Pound Poms, Home and Away) as Tracey’s loving husband and amateur kickboxer Con Petropoulous.

This is going to be funnnnnn

The Castle is one of my fav films of all time, this really is a dream job and I’m pumped to be joining @michaelcasselgroup & @workingdogprod on such a beast.

Working with a bunch of legends, including fellow Bridport knockabout Paige Rattray and angels of my life @greaveschloe & @joxlade.

There are also lots of really good actors in it who I am told are very good!

The Castle is hands down my favourite movie of all time. I owned it on VHS and DVD and like the majority of us who grew up in Australia in the 90’s, I’ve quoted it more times than I can remember.

So, to be asked to shoot the key art and PR images for The Castle stage production, I thought I was dreaming.

Warm fuzzies working with everyone on set, especially wonderful to have set build legend @martymanca back by my side …It’s what you did with it. 👌🏼

Jane Kennedy, Co-Creator and Co-Producer, said:
“One of the reasons The Castle has remained so close to people’s hearts is because Australians see a little bit of themselves in the Kerrigans. They are funny, loyal, optimistic and endlessly devoted to one another. Finding actors who could capture that spirit was incredibly important to us, and from the moment we saw this cast together, we knew we’d found our family. We cannot wait for audiences to meet them.”

Regarded as one of Australia’s most celebrated and beloved films, THE CASTLE has captivated Australian audiences for three decades and left an undeniable mark on Australian culture, with its humour, heart, and iconic one liners firmly embedded within the national vernacular. Audiences will once again join the Kerrigan family on their heartfelt and hilarious Darryl versus Goliath fight to save their cherished home.
