Hispanic Heritage Month Bronx Book Spotlight 🗽🇩🇴📚

Today we’re featuring Doodles from the Boogie Down by Bronx born Dominican American author and illustrator Stephanie Rodriguez.

Thirteen year old Steph loves drawing and dreams of attending LaGuardia High School to pursue her passion for art. But growing up in the Bronx with a protective Dominican mom means chasing that dream might not be so simple. 🎨❤️

A funny and heartfelt middle grade graphic novel about family, friendship, identity, growing up in the Bronx, and finding the courage to follow your dreams. 🗽📚✨

We love when you find your own books in the stacks! Visiting from Los Angeles, author Stephanie Rodriguez found her graphic novel Doodles from the Boogie Down at Central Library.

From Penguin Random House, this is "a coming-of-age graphic novel inspired by the author’s tween years, a young Dominican girl navigates middle school, her strict mother, shifting friendships, and her dream of being an artist." 🤩

Don't forget to tag us in your library pictures and stories, we adore them!

🍂❄️ On my reel era, so don't mind me: There's nothing like dissociating for one day from the wildness of this world and go walk around in a fake one. Stars Hollow was all things. We didn't see any Gilmore Girls, but doing cute things with your friends might just be the thing you need to save yourself from doom scrolling. ☕️☕️☕️

Thank you @tinamvasquez @kinkykarena and @stephguez for our December tradition. Where are we going next year?!

As part of her journey across schools during the OneUp x Kokila Author Festival, Stephanie Rodriguez led interactive sessions and doodle-along workshops inspired by Doodles from the Boogie Down.

Here’s a glimpse from Nehru World School, Ghaziabad, Jaipuria School Ghaziabad, and Heritage Xperiential School, Noida — one small window into days filled with reading, drawing, and imagination.

More moments from this incredible journey coming soon.

Dream, Draw & Imagine Big.....
Students of the Primary Wing at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Vasundhara, had a wonderful interactive session with author Stephanie Rodriguez, creator of Doogle from the Boogie Down.

Through storytelling and the “Dream and Draw” activity, children explored how ideas become characters, and characters become stories. A beautiful blend of reading, imagination and creativity.
