A week ago I attended the “Blank Slate Live Art” event at Studio6 on the Lower East Side. The studio mounted blank canvasses on the walls and invited 15 artists to create works of their choosing. They were instructed to arrive at 6pm and were given exactly 5 hours to create their works, which (finished or unfinished) would then be put up for sale.

I had the opportunity to watch the artists as they worked and meet many of them! Although many of the canvases were completed quickly, several (particularly the work by Renda Writer) involved intricate, meticulous detail.

Works + artists in the carousel:

1 - Uncuttart
2 - Yanik
3 - Hugus
4 - Free Humanity (photo, left canvas); Modomatic (right canvas)
5 - Free Humanity (canvas)
6 - Uncuttart (left photo); Steph Paintings (right photo); Dirt Cobain (right canvas)
7 - Steph Paintings (photo + center-left canvas)
8 - Dirt Cobain (canvas)
9 - Renda Writer (left photo + canvas); ButtSup (right photo + canvas)
10 - Renda Writer (vanvas - expand photo to see detail
11 - ButtsUp (photo + canvas)

This Thursday 10/1 THE ART SHOW STARTS WITH NOTHING.

At 6PM, the doors open.

Artists and patrons enter Studio6 at the exact same time.

On the gallery’s white walls are 15 blank, white, 18” × 24” canvases. No finished artwork. No preview. Nothing created in advance.

At 6PM, the art show begins.

Fifteen artists each choose a canvas and have exactly five hours, from 6PM to 11PM, to create a finished work of art in front of the audience.

An artist might spend 20 minutes on their piece. They might spend an hour. They might use every second of the five hours.

At exactly 11PM: brushes down. Whatever is on the canvas at that moment is the finished artwork.

The artists then price their pieces, and all 15 original works immediately become available for purchase. The exhibition remains on view and for sale through Sunday, October 4.

Come watch a blank gallery transform into a complete exhibition in five hours. Meet the artists. Watch the decisions, mistakes, changes and breakthroughs happen in real time and if a piece speaks to you, become the person who takes it home.

At Studio6, we don’t just create art, we create experiences.

Last night was filled with art and Citibiking. Hopping from Midtown to Chelsea, to the village, to the Lower East Side before heading home to Brooklyn I’m re-energized and ready to start the next painting series. Last night, I checked out both @hauserwirth galleries, checked out @noamsart at her show/opening and then stopped by @studio6.nyc and @timetobehappygallery

Just getting mobile again after the knee injury and getting the studio set up but there’s nothing like going out to experience #art to build momentum while creating my own. #gallery #nyc #nyfw #artist

Thank you @saturdaysfootball for giving me the opportunity to curate the art for the @saturdaysfootball x @nycfootyofficial Clubhouse at the @shopify space, truly an honour. 🙏🏽

Massive s/o to @lucid_betts who I had the honour of working with during the pop up and to all the artists part of it, thank you! Wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.

Also thank you to everyone who came out to support, purchased merchandise (or took a picture) and watched the footy matches with us! And to @rauulnava for vouching for me.

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love football and art, so you can’t even imagine how much this meant to me!
