We were delighted to welcome Deaf School's Steve Allen (aka Enrico Cadillac Junior) and Vanessa Contenay to the museum this week! 🌟

They both loved the museum and we hope to see them again soon ✨

Happy 67th birthday🎂🎸🍾🥂Ian Zachary Broudie aka #ianbroudie seen here with Original Mirrors who don’t appear to have a hashtag or an @

They were playing at the legendary #bainsdouches which was THE hippest club/gig in Paris in the 1980’s, which had a massive multi year renovation & re-opened in 2015 at 7,Rue du Bourg-l’Abbé 3ième

I was lucky enough to see one of my fondest remembered gigs there in July 1988 when Prince did an after-show which started around 4am & finished about an hour & a half later

Original Mirrors were #newwave band
Ian @izbroudie was originally from Big in Japan
@steve.allen was from Deaf School
Their drummer #petekircher went on to join Status Quo & their bassist #jimmyhughes went on to join DepartmentS

GIRLS is the theme of the new episode of Sounds, available for streaming on all good podcast platforms. I'm playing more than 20 tracks from Madonna, EMF, Frank Zappa, Donna Summer, The Slits, Jet and many more. Links in bio.

Another highlight is All Girls Lie by Bette Bright. If you've listened to past episodes of Sounds, you'll know I have a particular soft spot for the band Deaf School, one of the several great but lesser known bands on the UK club circuit in the mid 70s who got overtaken and effectively drowned out by the tidal wave of punk rock.

Famously, the journalist Paul Du Noyer wrote "In the whole history of Liverpool music, two bands matter most. One is The Beatles; the other is Deaf School." They were theatrical and art school-based, but not as edgy or avant garde as Roxy Music. Theirs was a striking live show, with eight or more musicians crowded onto a small club stage, fronted by co-vocalists Steve Allen (or Enrico Cadillac Jr as he was known) and Bette Bright (real name Anne Martin).

They finally called it a day in 1978 after three fine albums (though they have periodically got back together again from time to time ever since - more dates this summer). After the breakup, co-vocalists Steve Allen and Bette Bright went their separate ways. Allen launched a succession of different projects including Original Mirrors and The Perils Of Plastic, while Bette Bright had a short solo career with a couple of fine singles and an album before she settled down to domestic bliss as Mrs Suggs from Madness. All Girls Lie was the B-side from her 1980 single Hello I Am Your Heart.
