2025 / Half-a-Decade Recap (2020–2025)

Grateful for the past five years.
Plenty of ups and downs — honestly, probably more downs than ups — but 2025 was a year of many firsts.

• First show as JIKU (at a major venue)
• First release on major DSPs
• First EDC
• First overseas gig
• First time back in the USA after half a decade

I downloaded Ableton in 2020, right after finishing college, in the middle of lockdown. At first, it was pure curiosity — trying to understand the music I kept hearing at raves. I was introduced to the EDM scene while studying in the US, and I couldn’t stop wondering how DJs made sounds that made thousands of people move.

But if I’m being honest, I only decided to truly go all in much later — during a period where I was deeply unhappy. I asked myself one simple but confronting question:

What is the one thing that would make life feel worth living?

I already knew the answer.
I was just terrified of the risk. Of failure. Of choosing the uncertain path.

Once I faced that fear, everything became clear.
The answer was music.

Five years later, it’s surreal to see how that decision — born from a low point — turned into experiences, opportunities, and friendships I never could’ve planned for. And somehow, it still feels like I’m only getting started.

This half-decade didn’t go the way I expected. There were failures, setbacks, and long stretches of doubt — but every one of them led me here. I still have a long way to go, and I’m okay with that.

I keep coming back to this quote:
“How silly of me to forget how far I’ve come, just because I still have so far to go.”

Here’s to the next chapter.

2024 was a year for expansion, a year of putting myself out there in ways I never had before.

I’ll admit, it was often scary, and the unknown was daunting, however persistence, pursuit and prayer kept me going.

I’m so thankful for everyone who has supported me on my journey. To you, I am grateful.

I’m looking forward to all 2025 has to offer.

Here’s a long one…
.
The word for August was perseverance, it was one of the most challenging months I’ve had in a while. Despite the challenges I faced, I persevered through them to make it to the other side. In this month I attempted new things that were new to me.
.
I went for it, made mistakes, overcame and course-corrected and grew.
.
The journey is not about perfection, it’s about perseverance. It made me stronger and more resilient.
.
I ask myself two questions:
1. Did I stick to my purpose?
2. What are the fruits of this month?
My purpose is to build community within the electronic dance music space and to give artists a platform.
.

This month lead me to producing a 5 week stretch of events, making new friends and strengthening current relationships, take in great music, make it through financial strife and come out on the other side, teach my first AMPEDDance fitness class, throw a successful DJ competition, connect with new artists, fine tune and redirect many aspects of my life, create a 5 year plan for my business and most notable, find my voice as a vocalist again.
.
Despite many sleepless nights, feeling inadequate and sometimes lost, I made it. I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given, the people in my life who lift me up in hard times and cheerlead me in good times, God and all of His strength & grace he has with me, and the ability to create a plan to make my vision a reality.
.
August, you came, you went, you almost pulled me under, yet here we are.
.
With love, thank you for the many lessons and blessings you’ve brought to me.

A few weekends ago I finally felt mentally free enough to fully enjoy the music scene again after sooooo long away bc #life and ended up winning a meet’n greet with an artist I’d only gotten lucky enough to see ONCE wayyyy back in 2015 but had been following thru @dimmak + any #SteveAoki @siriusxm #RemixRadio sets I could between work/school before they were free on Apple hrs before the show (yesss I’m that old and asked to check anytime a friend shared their satellite radio during rides back in the day 😹) so to meet #HenryFong was unreal! HIS SETS ARE AS LIT AS I IMAGINED and MORE Y’ALL 🗣️ I danced 4hrs straight 🙀☄️

When my INCREDIBLE orthopedic doc @dougelenzmd asked why I NEEDED the 4th knee ops if I could’ve lived a much slower paced life w/o an ACL after a 2nd ops w/ @austinsportsmed (3rd in la Vida) I KNEW it was bc I had so many more places to see and people to dance around with. After starting a shuffling session mid @djhenryfong set I was reminded why it was the best decision I could’ve ever made!

1️⃣ - Green room before the 🔥 set where I ended up showing everyone how to give the perfect high five and drank all the water bottles bc TX is hot af 😹
2️⃣ & 3️⃣ - me going crazy to songs I’d only heard online/on SiriusXM
4️⃣ - the moment it felt like everything would finally be alright captured by new friends @michelle__mathis & @steve_feral after ending up solo at the show
5️⃣ - My Bass face all night when a set is THAT sick 😮‍💨💯
6️⃣ - what pure sober fun can look like in edm!
7️⃣ - when friends 🤍 to move to the bass as much as ü
8️⃣ - more sets with free dancing people and less judging in this world pls, ty ☮️
9️⃣ - Bun goes up when sweat comes down nowadays. Gracias for the shot @bdaang aka new shuffle buddy 👣
🔟 - A grateful #Longhorn for this life regardless of how bumpy it gets bc it got me aquí 📍

P.S. @superstitionatx thank you for making such a memorable and safe night possible!!! Iono if I’ll ever be able to beat this first time and that’s okies bc it’s what makes the memory last forever🫰🏼🥹🌃💞
