My wife challenged me to reflect before I got on a plane for work the other morning. I remember it as something like
“Pretty soon, you’re not going to be 27 anymore. Does that make you feel anything?”
My answer. “No.”
She then went on to affectionately point out some things that I probably should have remembered. Experiences, firsts, objects or moments of gratefulness.
“Yeah, I guess 27 was fine.”
She didn’t know it then, but her question was the can opener to my day long look into a subconscious mirror of “27, what happened?”
So, in no particular order…

1. Moved to TX.
2. Proposed to the love of my life.
3. Got used to saying fiancé.
4. My first Louisiana crawfish boil.
5. Moved out of my van and into a house (go figure).
6. Rekindled my relationship with Air conditioning.
7. An estimated 74 river jumps.
8. Buying a Landcruiser with 320,000 miles on the odometer.
9. Driving cross country to Best man for my Best friend after a southwest meltdown.
10. Planned a wedding with the love of my life.
11. My first Wurstfest.
12. Shooting my first deer.
13. Gained two new brothers in Tanner and Titus.
14. Shot a season of television in the Yucatan with the most beautiful souls.
15. Married the love of my life in absolutely epic fashion surrounded by our most loving friends and family.
16. Gaining two new sisters in Becca and Lauren, and a Mom and Dad (whoa).
17. Experienced Portugal and Spain with my best friend (also the love of my life).
18. Moved in with my wife (we have sink drama).

Another trip around this great ball of fire. Another flicker of time escaping my grasp like vapor.
All of the silly things forgotten. All of the important things remain.

“There is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

To all of you who made 27 such a joy, such a wonderful memory,
Thank you.

P.S. I'm not used to saying wife yet. Also don’t wish me happy birthday, it was two days ago. Ship has sailed ❤️
