Steve and I headed up the Fish Creek Trail in the San Gorgonio Wilderness for a day hike. Little did we know what would happen next

While taking a lunch break at Fish Creek Saddle, we saw a huge plume of smoke erupt over the ridge like a volcano. It was one of the craziest things I have seen in a while. We decided to head down immediately. Kudos to my friend Steve, who made the decision to head back up to Fish Creek Saddle and tell the campers it would be a good idea to evacuate after we got a better glimpse of the situation. I hope they can get the fire under control soon and praying for everybody involved.

Thank you to all the Men and Women involved fighting the fire. Thank you for doing all you can to protect homes, busineses and our beloved wilderness most of us call home, the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

What started off as a normal (but hot) day of backpacking ended up as a very thankful moment to be safe and away from danger. We were making our way to Dobbs camp, and about a mile or so from Dobbs itself, we came around a corner and saw a plume of smoke. Immediately, without no disagreement or hesitation, we decided to abort the trip and descend to safety. There happened to be a route nearby (within a few hundred feet from where we saw the fire) that we could take out. Glad we are down and safe. I pray for the safety of the men and women fighting the fire and hope they can get it contained quickly. And I am extremely thankful for what they do, putting their life's of the line to keep people safe as well as doing everything they can to save peoples homes. #fire #forest #forestfire #backpack #backpacker #backpacking #hike #hiker #wild #wildernessculture #wildernessexplorer #wanderlust #safe #danger #mountain #mountains
