What an incredible day in Nashville — my brother and I had the pleasure of meeting the legendary Ray Stephenson 🎶

A true craftsman of song and story, Ray co-wrote “Red River Blue” and “Hemingway’s Whiskey,” both of which became title tracks that reached #1 on the Billboard Album Charts and went Platinum — recorded by artists like Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Kenny Chesney.

Beyond the hits, Ray embodies the heart of Nashville - humble, soulful, and dedicated to the art of storytelling that moves people. Grateful for the time, the wisdom, and the inspiration today. 🙏 @raybomusic @stevefromaus

“Hemingway’s Whiskey” 🥃
Written by Guy Clark, Ray Stephenson, and Joe Leathers — and recorded by Kenny Chesney released September 28, 2010 — this masterpiece became far more than a country hit. It’s a toast to truth, time, and the courage to live authentically.

It’s about slowing down…
About the kind of wisdom you can’t rush — the kind that burns, then warms.
It’s about knowing when to speak, when to listen, and when to simply let life pour itself out — neat, no chaser.

As the chorus says:
“Hemingway’s whiskey, warm and smooth and mean
Even when it burns, it’ll always finish clean
He didn’t like it watered down, he took it straight up and neat
If it was bad enough for him, you know it’s bad enough for me
Hemingway’s whiskey”

The song became the title track of Chesney’s Platinum-certified #1 album, and a timeless tribute to the poets and outlaws who lived — and wrote — with fire in their hearts.

Raise a glass to the truth-tellers.
And may we all live a little more like Hemingway’s whiskey. 🥃 @raybomusic @stevefromaus
