The soundtrack to Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf was released last week on all streaming platforms.

As always, none of this would have been possible without the incredible musicians, engineers, and team members who brought the score to life.

A huge thank you to all of the wonderful soloists, including @erikrydvall on nyckelharpa, @kenny.e.b absolutely slaying the dulcimers, @mbgordy on percussion, and @veronika_vitazkova for her haunting bass flute solos.

A special shoutout to @martonbelej for his beautiful oboe playing throughout the score. The oboe is such a personal instrument — its color can vary enormously from player to player, and what resonates with you is very much a matter of personal taste. I told Marton that his is one of the most beautiful oboe tones I’ve ever heard, and I sincerely meant it.

Thank you to all the engineers — @stevekaplan_audio, @lucasfehring, and @bobakbence — for holding down the fort and making the process seamless. I often tell engineers that they have a thankless job: when they do everything right, things run so smoothly that no one notices. They truly embody the credo that not all heroes wear capes.

So grateful to everyone who lent their talent to this soundtrack. 🎻🎺🪈🥁🎸🌍🚀🐱

It takes a village, as they say. So over the next couple weeks I’ll be introducing some key members of the music team that brought my #GRAMMY nominated score for #IndianaJonesAndTheGreatCircle to life.

First up; Meet one of my close friends and long-time collaborators, Steve Kaplan - who mixed this massive score.

For your #GRAMMY consideration in the Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. #FYC #MusicMixer #RecordingEngineer #LetsGo!!

Music is in the air! I’m so happy to announce that my debut single Bacheh Golam is released on all streaming platforms (link in bio)! I would like to extend a very special thank-you to my grandmother Dr. Fawzia Ali for providing the beautiful cover art for this composition.
.
Thank you to everyone who donated on GoFundMe and helped bring this piece to life. I look forward to continuing to build bridges between cultures through music, fostering more love in our world—in a time when we need it the most.
.
Bacheh Golam (بچه گلم) literally translates to “my flower child” in Farsi (Persian) and is the term of endearment my Afghan grandmother calls all her nine grandchildren. The piece traces its roots to the music of Afghanistan, drawing from the infectious rhythms of the tabla and the melodies of the rubab, the national instrument of Afghanistan. This composition evokes the spirit of the rubab by retuning the violins and oud to resemble the rubab’s unique assortment of three types of strings (melodic, sympathetic, and drone). Bacheh Golam pays homage to the soundworld of Afghanistan, and the hope and optimism for a brighter future for the Afghan diaspora.
.
In the recording, you can hear the influences of my own training as a composer in the Western classical tradition as well as the blending of musical cultures associated with the oud and tabla (which my grandfather Kabir Ali played!), bridging the West through Greece to Turkey to the Arab world to Persia to Afghanistan and South Asia. It is a global synthesis of a work. Thank you to all the mentors and collaborators!
