I first met @stevetippetts in early 2015 when I walked into his shop, Anchor Ink looking for an apprenticeship. I had a lot of friends at the time urging me to try and work for him if I could.
He just flat out told me no, they weren’t looking for anyone, he didn’t want to look at my portfolio.
I went straight from there to Ironclad, where @ryz_above took me on as an apprentice, and I began my tattooing journey.
By the end of the year, Ryan decided to step away from the shop, and sold it to Steve.
From that point on, I worked with Steve and learned from him over the next 8 years.
In 2023, when Steve and his wife Heather decided to move down to Torrey, I was given the incredible opportunity to take over the reigns at Anchor to keep it going for the next generation.
Steve is an amazing tattooer, machine builder, friend, and all around great dude, who I owe everything to. I’m so grateful to have him as a brother.
Steve will be joining us on October 10th to celebrate an amazing 20 years at the shop he built and we all call home - my favorite place in the world - Anchor Ink Tattoo
So if you’ve ever been tattooed at the shop, make sure you come buy him a drink and thank him for building this place.

Cold blued frames today! These are some national swing gates that have been adjusted and lightened by @stmachine6 he made a great improvement with the spring shelf and I like the way he drills and steps the holes . I don’t have a place to do that work and he is a natural machinist he actually grew up on the street #owenjensentattoomachine was born on . He probably doesn’t think that its a strange karmic wrinkle as much as I do . So the three holed one is for @jeff_jefe_arnett and the other frame will probably end up mine . I am going to use coils that came from @catfishcarl51 they are the correct size and the exact coil that were intended for the geometry. They have to cure for a bit before I wire them up and cut springs. I call this finish old revolver . And it takes an afternoon of old man circling around . #swingate #coiltattoomachine

Here’s a tattoo machine that I have owned for over 36 years . It was a @spauldingandrogers #puma and of course it’s had some modifications the real addition is the swim ggate @stevetippetts made . Steve apprenticed with me and out of all the people who asked for a shot he’s the only person who actually followed through on a tattoo apprenticeship and he was already talented at metal work and had a great background in that . He can fabricate and has a great automotive background. But that tattoo machine has been reworked several times and the frame is still the same. The coils came from @dennisdwyertattoo RIP and although both Steve and my good friend @ron_realistic can wind great coils I put these on because it was period correct to add them to machines back then you could buy them for a reasonable amount of money . Although @catfishcarl51 was mentoring me and we were collaborating on different projects and I was doing almost all of my shading work with Carls #jimdandytattoomachine®️ and his patented #cutback I had aplace in my box always for this machine.

I believe good tubes are important . There are lots of experiments in this and some of them taught lessons of what to do and some taught me what not to do.

Did you know we have very talented tattoo artist across the parking lot from the station. This is his work on one of our employees, and she always recommends him for tattoos! It is Steve Tippetts.
