For the second chapter, I want to share my images from Koh Phi Phi. It's a place I first experienced during quarantine when the islands were untouched, quiet, and pristine. It was a rare moment of calm for that place and I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed its silence. That was the only way those monkey shots were possible.

Later, I had the opportunity to live on Phi Phi for a short while and had a chance to familiarize myself with its new shooting style of shooting. Unlike Koh Tao, where I was still developing myself, I approached Phi Phi ready to explore, photograph, and grow my portfolio.

Photographically speaking there is a difference in lighting. Koh Tao’s granite tapering mountains create gradual, consistent conditions, while Phi Phi’s limestone walls cast dramatic shadows that shift throughout the day - opening and closing photographic opportunities like gates to another universe.

With seasonal variations, light that transforms familiar spots into something fresh. Observation and quick reaction time was the name of the game. For those fascinated by aquatic life will appreciate the biodiversity of both coral and the animals. They vary greatly from Koh Tao as both of these islands are located in different oceans.

Koh Phi Phi is dynamic and breathtaking. The landscape feels like a dream but its small size and intimate atmosphere aren’t for everyone. The space and peace of Koh Tao will forever have my heart. For me, "PP" of aquatic creativity and growth and it will forever remain a treasure trove of opportunities waiting to be discovered by those willing to see it in a new light.

See you there.

Here is a place I've been to so many times. At first I was going to include every photo I took at this location but realized it would be too many and redundant to the point I want to make. So I only included ones I shot near the surface... And still not all of them!

The point is that despite having an obvious choice of composition and lighting, this place is a lot more dynamic than that. There are a million compositions to be had here - a million variations within a single time of day multiplied by 12 hours of varying daylight with different weather patterns and different seasons... Fewf!

As a beginner photographer/videographer, it's good to emulate artists that inspire you. However, as time goes on, it will become your turn to add the culture of freedive photography and no one will praise you for showing the world that you can recreate your favourite photographs. If you want to become known and get recognition, you will need to start becoming an inspiration yourself.

If you ever find yourself in a popular place where you see many people have photographed, I challenge you to look for a unique composition or framing to add to the collective creativity of a place rather than walking away with something you have already seen.

You don't need to reinvent the wheel but at least add something to the pool of creativity that is refreshing and people haven't thought of before. Whether it's a new colour palette, unique concepts, lighting, creative direction.. Who knows.. But it's up to you to sort it out.

A lot of it will be inspired by your environment. I live in Thailand and the water is rarely ever clear. I built my style around murky green water (something I'll be hosting a workshop about later this year.) The photographers of today are breaking boundaries and paving the road for the legends of tomorrow. And that's a beautiful thing for the culture.
