It’s my birthday and I can’t think of a better way to spend it than making music with these fellas at my fave West End venue. And my best birthday present would be to have a full room of legends getting down with us.

Thanks again to @pandrmediastudio for this throw back to @_yowie_25 (actually ‘24) when we had @rizzy.gillespie over with @goldensound in the keyboard corner. We haven’t played this for a couple of gigs and I miss @travisjenkinsmusic blistering guitar solo over the end of the song. Going to bring it back for my birthday gig, especially because my wife @frankie_j_oh_laa will be there, and I wrote this song for her ❤️. #brisbanelivemusic #livemusic #brisbanebars #whatsonbrisbane

June is just about here, so here's whats coming up at JMI LIVE!

Next week we have Helen Russell's Good Bait Trio with Jamie Clark on guitar, and Paul Hudson on drums. This is your chance to see one of Brisbane's most experienced and long standing jazz trios.

JMI darling Lochlan Feng returns the following day (Friday) with The Brookes St Grind, a long standing quintet featuring some of Brisbane's favorites.

Honk is up the second week, an exciting project by Chris James. "The concept is relatively simple: the harmonic intrigue and textural landscapes of a big band meets the more spacious and nimble nature of a smaller combo, providing more opportunity for soloists."

MSG the following week. Do not miss Mikael Strand's sextet, we look forward to this one every year at JMI and it always delivers the hard-swinging grooves, lyrical balladry, and fiery improvisation that it's come to be recognised for.

Finally, we have the Charlotte McLean Quartet. If you are familiar with Charlotte then you've probably already stopped reading and have purchased your ticket. For those who aren't, Charlotte is vocalist and songwriter known for her distinctive voice, thoughtful approach to improvisation, and deep connection to the jazz tradition.

Tickets and info are in our link in bio!

Can’t wait to play @thepresynct on the 22snd and @mirrorballministeries77 on the 23rd. Support on our Sunny Coast gig coming from @jeunae_elita, who I’ve known and admired as a friend and artist for several decades. In West End we’re joined by @dafunkdaband who are going to be a whole lot of fun.

I can’t wait because I know the frustrations, fears, anxieties, sadness and anger I feel at the State of Things will dissolve the moment Sam starts counting in the first song. And it’s my somewhat biased conviction that live music is the glue that we need to come together, find that collective joy that we can then take back out to the darker corners of our lives and keep our souls nourished. Do the things that need to be done.

“Funk not only moves, it can re-move, dig?” George Clinton

Next Saturday we’re going to send off our favourite venue @itsstillasecret33 with a big party. Saturday 30th with @lartiste_chantal on decks. We’ve made the tickets tiered pricing so you can pay what you can afford, including a special deal on our new 12” vinyl.

Here’s a little peek from our @browndog.justin house party. @travisjenkinsmusic on the guitar and @laneous jumping up on the backing vocals. We’ll put a full video up on YouTube in a little bit.

It’s the end of an era. @itsstillasecret33 is closing its doors and we’ve got the honour of playing its last night. I’ve been playing this room since before Facebook, back when beers were $5 and Jodie and the crew at the Joynt (as it was called) made this place the party house of the ratbag West End music scene.

Fast forward a few years, and @thesecretlifeofemilyjane and the isas family have transformed it into the tasteful living room of the slightly less ratbaggy Brisbane music scene. When I started up this band, ISAS was the natural place to launch it. We’ve had so many memorable nights here, including filming our film clip to Start Again with the help of @finnashton1 @zacwarneford and @eco_tone.

Help us send it off in style - with a party to remember. Ticket link in the bio. We’ve got tiered ticket pricing, so no one misses out - until the room sells out! We’ve got some surprises in store on the night. @lartiste_chantal on the decks.
